TF Retirement Low Ammo (Full Version)

In some past games against the AI, I have had SCTFs withdraw from combat, apparently due to low ammo. My question is, is it just being out of ammo for the main gun s, or do torpedoes contribute as well?

For example, for CAs, if they are out of torpedoes, but have main gun ammo will they attempt to flee combat? The same question applies to DDs.

SCTF tries to withdraw when they have low main gun ammo. They do fight without torpedoes as long as they have ammo left.

If you are going into a major fight, I would always reccomend rearming before. IME TF's can abort before they reach red ammo levels.

I kind of wish there was a way to tell your battleships not to fire all there main gun ammo at that small transport ship they meet on the way to the real fight.

All part of the scrum. You put your units in harm's way and the game engine calculates the carnage. If, on the other hand, you are playing against a foe who is specifically trying to make that happen so his BB's can swoop in against yours with low ammo, well that is tactics. IMHO, In some circumstances, sequential SCTF may be more successful than a single one, though in my experience there is only a narrow band of situations where you want to do that, and that generally is in a massive counterpulse sequence where you are all in for the combat.

Agree up to a point- but not if it's a lot of low value, empty transports ahead of the BB fleet.

send 100 AK ahead of a main engagement

enemy commander would be hard pressed to hold fire against such easy targets.. and then OOPS no ammo [:'(]

'Quite Brilliant', is not something I would say on something bordering on the one hand, bad sportmanship, and the other cheating.

Rather too 'gamey' in my opinion. I would be extremely unhappy if my opponent started employing tactics such as this, and I for one would not employ such underhand and devious tactics.

Its rather like saying, 'Look, lets round up one hundred civilians, run them at the machine gun post until it runs out of ammo, and then attack!'.

If an opponent used such ungentlemanly and lets be truthful, 'unrealistic' conduct, I would quickly abort the game in disgust.[sm=00000023.gif]

No, that is a typical stereotype of Hollywood, coming from fact that sometimes soviets threw badly equipped formations to stop German advance just for a few hours or days till reinforcements arrive. All this is pretty understandable thinking that within first 6 month of war Soviets lost almost whole army to Germans.
