Select a mechanized platoon and dismount them.

Redmarkus5 -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/4/2012 7:30:05 PM)

Now de-select the type (Inf/Vehicle) you DON'T want to move.

Redmarkus5 -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/4/2012 7:33:46 PM)

Your dismounted infantry are now selected but your vehicles are not selected.

BEWARE

Don't click anything else yet, or you will lose the selected infantry. You will have to repeat the process to select them again.

SOLUTION

Immediately assign a number (e.g. press CTRL + 1) to the selected infantry. You can later press '1' to select them again.

Redmarkus5 -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/4/2012 7:37:43 PM)

Order the infantry to move somewhere and the APCs will stay put.

You can repeat the process and this time select the APCs. Assign them a different number (e.g. '2').

Now you can press '1' and move your infantry forward with APC over watch, then press 2 and re-position your APCs.

No more APCs stuck in the woods - move them in road march formation along a road while the infantry spread out into the trees on either flank.

The game just took on a whole new dimension for me. I can't believe I didn't spot this earlier!!!

To separate a single Squad from its vehicle:

1. Select the SQUAD.

2. Right click on the PLATOON button - not the Squad button.

3. You know the rest.

wodin -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/4/2012 8:28:20 PM)

I juts click the dismount icon (square with arrow).

Shadrach -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/4/2012 8:39:00 PM)

Wow thanks a bunch for this guide, excellent work, much appreciated! I've seen the 'filter' function at times, but never really did figure out how to use it properly. Like you said, this is perfect for when you want to recon through a forest with the APCs following the road.

@Wodin - dismount does not separate the infantry from the vehicle, you still command them as one.

This will come in use playing the Germans at Krasnaya Polyana, you have tons of pzgrenadiers in halftracks.

budd -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/4/2012 8:43:44 PM)

Thx again.....Redmarkus. I wonder how many more things there are left to discover. Hope for the next game they do a proper manual, hope I can run the game also. Thx again.

The point of this thread is not how to dismount. It's how to separate the infantry from the vehicle so that they can move independently.

If you just dismount, the whole squad (infantry PLUS vehicle) will still move together.

Please take another look :)

I am starting the campaign over because I lost a ton of half tracks that followed right behind their Panzer Grens.

Once again I thank you red for explaining all of the little nuances of this game and your efforts have resulted in a broader understanding of this gem for me.

Yes, I think the filter thingy was introduced in 5.80. No need to not update if you ask me ;)

"Also for a future release - can we split the Infantry from their vehicle so that the vehicle can stay behind, take a different route or provide covering fire? It is frustrating sometimes that if I attack into woods the vehicles must come along, even though they will get stuck."

"This feature present from first release APK43
Use selection filters for it."Quote fom Andrey. So,it seems this option was always there back to when the game was first introduced with the game engine 5.75 but most players never knew it.Myself included.

Redmarkus5 -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/5/2012 6:35:55 PM)

I think there used to be buttons in the UI for selecting INF only, VEH only, etc. in 577 and earlier versions.

Now it's changed to the format in my screenies.

I played the first KP battle over again, with my infantry forward and the HTs providing covering fire - huge difference.

shrek -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/6/2012 5:19:14 AM)

I checked and you're right, it's been there all along.

"most players never knew it." Yes, but how would we when there's no mention of that feature in the manual. [:)]

I have struggled with this too. However, Andrey says that the in-game help contains a lot of useful data. I haven't really looked at it yet because I find it tough reading through the translated text.

0311USMC -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/11/2012 2:18:37 PM)

Been using this. For example the first squad select the infantry
assign key 5, for the track assign key 1. Do this for whole company so infantry
carrying APC are 1,2,3,4, infantry 5,6,7,8 all working just fine.

In the squad graphic would have squad icon with 1,2,3,4 on bottom.
Would just use my own memory for the infantry. So I would choose squad #5 and
all little blue circles would be highlighted but no command circle.
They would run off and go do what ordered.

This morning for me this is new and don't know what I did different(yet).
I have 1 squad icon with 6/2??? I usually have only one number showing on icon.
Also when I choose 6 the little blue circles for infantry are highlighted
with a command circle around them.

How does it work for you? One number on icon or two (like 6/2).
Am wondering if I have been doing wrong or stumbled onto something
new.

Thank you kindly for any information.

lavish -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/11/2012 4:19:29 PM)

I dont remember seeing that, but I'm pretty sure it means that you have assigned one number for the infantry of that squad and one separate number for the vehicle of that squad.

Dane49 -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/11/2012 9:02:56 PM)

Yes,it looks like 6th squad from 2nd APC.

0311USMC -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/12/2012 1:58:06 AM)

Yes its squad bound to # 6 which rides on apc bound to #2.
In op mode their is only one number. In tac mode some
combination of mouse click makes both numbers appear.
Am usually too busy clicking when all of a sudden both
# appear.

Is there a way to lock camera on detached units???
This would be huge help.

Also hate when I click on icon and don't use number to select
all units even detached head to that spot.

Also[:'(] This game is so cool it really needs some way to record
battles, miss a lot of cool animations. Still waiting
to see Arms and Legs flying through the air from the arty.

Dane49 -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (7/12/2012 2:49:15 AM)

I've never figured out a way to lock the camera on detached infantry from the APC.As far as recording-I use Bandicam-it's free and records 10 mins at a time.

If you look really close, you'll appreciate some gorey details. For instance, crew of Bren Carriers sitting dead with their mouths wide open.

Seeing those two guys dead like that, in the middle of the frozen fields, made me quite sad, actually.

Dane49 -> RE: HOW TO DETACH INFANTRY FROM THEIR VEHICLES (8/8/2012 1:24:25 AM)

The graphical representation of artillery bombardments are my favorite feature in this game.Could use a little more detail in the destructive effects on buildings but still not bad compared to other games of this type, not to say they don't look decent, but could use some improvement for immersive enhancement.Regardless, this is my favorite game. And hopefully one day Graviteam will visit the Western European front with this game(So I can command some American units)Not sure that will ever happen, but that is my ferverent hope.
