PaulvonHindenburg -> RA Question (7/8/2012 9:59:01 PM)

How is the RA (4.1) on Pilot slots? With late war in mind, will we reach 1946 with it without eventually hitting a standard WITP pilot issue in 44/45 ??

Can I get a MP version and use after a RA game alrdy is started ??

JuanG -> RE: RA Question (7/8/2012 10:02:01 PM)

Like any other scenario, you should be able to switch the the MP version as long as your opponent does so too. Just remember that you will not be able to switch back.

PaulvonHindenburg -> RE: RA Question (7/8/2012 10:05:12 PM)

OK,  will it be OK to swich after next official patch is ut?

BUT is this really the case Evan for the RA verisons? Does the game patch the RA?

The official game patches generally include 2 types of changes; code and database.

Code changes affect everything - these are things like changes to how search patterns work or new interface features, etc.

Database changes only affect the official scenarios (01-25). Modded scenarios can have their own database patches, but they are not part of the official ones. As I am not familiar with the RA versions, someone else needs to answer you about what is compatible with what.

Lastly, there is no reason to wait with regards to switching to the MP version; I would seriously consider doing it for any game past mid-43 or so. Then again, I wasn't even aware there was another official patch coming, so I'm slightly out of the loop.

PaulvonHindenburg -> RE: RA Question (7/8/2012 10:23:39 PM)

OK, we can change to it right away I guess, but were do I find the file(s) or beta?

This is actually a good question; I had assumed they were bundled with the official patch but it turns out they are not.

Will try to see if I can locate the last beta, or if anyone knows another solution please do tell.

Very kind of you JuanG [:)]

The first post here has the latest beta (same as official release);

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2859420

Run the installer, point it to your WitP directory.

Once installed you'll find a 'Beta2' folder inside, which contains a .zip with the MP version of the game; just move this to the main folder and run it, or change your shortcut if you're using one.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot

John 3rd -> RE: RA Question (7/9/2012 7:59:19 AM)

Wait! I didn't get your PM until just now. Sorry for the delay.

RA should not be updated with ANY OFFICIAL new matrix Patch. The new patch would overlay existing material and this would be BAD. If a new patch was to come out, we would all wait for the Da Babes to OK it and/or provide their own version of the Patch. RA is a variant based on Da Babes.

Make Sense?

EDIT: Wow. My 8,000th Post...

JuanG -> RE: RA Question (7/9/2012 11:35:47 AM)

John, as I mentioned, neither the code or database official upgrades should affect any of the custom scenarios. The former will only affect how the game works, not the actual data, and the latter should only affect scenarios 1 thru 25. My AltWNT ones still work to this day despite being ~2 years old, with no changes, even with the new patches.

What you do need to be careful with are updates YOU make to RA, as database upgrades will not apply perfectly to scenarios already running. So with regards to this I'd advise anyone who does do a database upgrade on any scenario to save a backup save from before it was done just to make sure nothing goes wrong; if it does, revert and dont apply the upgrade.

No - this does not make sense! Babes has never issued any code patches for AE. None. They have worked with the other developers on ideas for certain actions within code, but all code has always been released through/by the regular development channel.

The only issue with installing a full-blown "official" release is the same as it has always been, namely that certain modded files might get over-written and need to be restored to the modded version. For example, the trio of pwhex files, and the graphics panels for the maps that display in-game.

If a patch were released that removed some code that Babes and other mods are using, then that would be an issue. Do you have any reason to believe that will be happening?

What Juan said!

JuanG -> RE: RA Question (7/9/2012 4:25:28 PM)

Very good point on the pwhex files; though admittedly I dont think RA uses those so RA players should be fine in that regard, Babes players need to be more careful depending on which version theyre running. The game will let you know if a pwhex file has changed though, so should be easy to detect.

John 3rd -> RE: RA Question (7/9/2012 4:29:17 PM)

We use the Da Babes pwhex files available for the Stacking Limits and Extended Map.

Just Posted in the other Thread:

One must be careful with the words. Patches come in two flavors: “Code Patches” and “Comprehensive Updates”.

Code Patches are things like Michaelm’s betas. They only contain “War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe” and perhaps “pwsdll.dll”. A Code Patch, by itself, doesn’t pose any problems to Babes or RA, and can be installed at any time.

A simple Code Patch will only overwrite the existing War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe and pwsdll.dll files.

Comprehensive Updates are official release packages from Matrix. They will have names like “WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-UpdateComp-v6666z.exe”. They are called comprehensive because they are, well, comprehensive. They contain:

The Official Code – WiTPAE.exe and pwsdll.dll;

The Official Map Data files – pwhexe.dat, pwzlink.dat, pwzone.dat;

The Official Map Art – all Stock WPEN.bmp and WPEH.bmp files;

The Official Ship Art – all Stock Sides and Shils;

The Official Plane Art – the Stock plane art, tops and sides;

The Official Icons, Prefs, etc – all Stock;

The Official Explosions, Fires, Clouds, Load Screens, Show Screens, etc – all Stock;

The Official Scenarios – all scenarios AND AI files, including pictures, text, etc.. in the range 001 to 025.

A Comprehensive Update will overwrite ALL of the above listed files with the Official Stock versions. If one has “replaced” a Stock file or piece of Art, it will be overwritten. For example, if one has their own BB ship art at AnSide0007.bmp, it will be replaced with the Stock AnSide0007.bmp. However, if one has “additional” art, with numbers higher than Stock (i.e., ANSide0799.bmp, for example) it won’t likely be overwritten because there is no AnSide0799 in Stock, so there’s nothing to overwrite it with.

One must backup their game environment (Map Art, Map Data, Ship/Plane/Screen/Candy Art, whatever, before installing a Comprehensive Update. After installation, replace the Stock “things” with one’s own “things”.
