rtf -> local connection not working (7/19/2012 8:33:21 PM)

hi,

I have bought a copy of the game and would like to play it with a friend using the tcp/ip connection ("local", not via the lobby!). according to another post here this should be possible. sadly it is not. we have opened the necessary ports on our routers and disabled our windows firewalls to be sure. one starts a server using play game and the other can connect to it local network client entering the wan ip address of the server. we both get a connected message and the program opens a tcp/ip connection (according to process explorer). but apart from connecting nothing works: no chat messages, no selection of the faction is shown to the other user and the only option available to the host is cancel.

do both computer have to be in a subnet? will joining a vpn help? does this game mode require two licenses as well?

cheers!

The game doesn't require two licenses to play directly over a TCP socket. The computers shouldn't have to be in a subnet. It's possible that when fixing one of the issues with the lobby late in development that I did something that broke the regular TCP code; I'll have to check my notes to recall exactly when our last successful test of the TCP direct connection was. Has anyone else been able to play over a LAN or WAN connection?

No luck on my end either.
Have one copy installed on my desktop and my laptop but have not been able to get a game going over my LAN.
After a lot of fiddling around, I've kind of given up on it.

I forgot to mention that we have tried this with both v1.5 and v1.1. no change.

thanks for looking into the issue.

cheers

It's the same issue for me, read my last post. It's a pity because we can't play against a friend with another PC.

Are you the one trying to play with rtf, or is this a separate issue?

rtf -> RE: local connection not working (7/22/2012 1:58:08 PM)

nope, his must be a separate issue.

let me know if you need help testing this. I'm in the gmt+1 timezone though...

cheers

I can not get the lan option to work also. Using the 1.6 beta version.
