AW1Steve -> Closed. (8/7/2012 11:00:04 PM)

Onime and myself are looking for a pair of dastardly, sneaky , talented and effective players to take the role of the LBY's in a 2x2 grand campaign, to start later this fall. We are looking for late October , early November. Vacations over , kids back in school , etc. We are looking for players that want a relaxed, but FUN game with minimum rules or drama (except for crashing aircraft and sinking ships!). We both can provide referrences if you like, and both of us have done 2x2's.

If interested , let us know. We tend to use drop box and Skype.

I agree with everything Steve has said except the insinuation that I have kids (that I know of). [:D]

The reason for the delay is because I will be out of the country until early October but I will have email and forum access and will be happy to communicate with any vict...err, volunteers who would step forward. [:)]

Have kids? No in your case you are one! [:D] I was hoping to point out to those forum members that do have knee-biters....er children, that they will be in school, doing home work, etc, and you'll have more time for a PBEM. [:D]

Uncivil Engineer -> RE: Looking for a pair of experinced Japanese players (8/8/2012 4:16:16 PM)

I'm interested in doing this, although I would like to play the Japanese side with 3 players - 1) Army, 2) Navy, 3) production and resources. I'm very interested in exploring the "communication/coordination" problems between the Army and the Navy. Each of those would control their own air assets. The Navy player would control all combatant ships, and would require coordination with the production player on shared use of xAK's. The three players would decide among themselves who would be the "supreme" commander to set strategy, although all would have input. I would not be averse to playing the Reluctant Admiral mod with stacking limits, and indeed, would prefer it.

I may not be as experienced as you are looking for; I've completed 1 PBEM (Marianas) and have a PBEM campaign game in progress (now late Feb 42). I would be willing to play any of the 3 "parts" described above, although being retired Army I'm probably best suited to that role. My "kid" will be 40 at the end of August; my grandkids, who are 800 miles away, are 14 and 16.

AW1Steve -> RE: Looking for a pair of experinced Japanese players (8/8/2012 6:31:39 PM)

Obviously I'll need to discuss this with my "junior" partner, AKA "punk kid", AKA Onime. [:D] I don't see a problem. For that matter , I don't see a problem if one (1) individual playing by himself , if he's willing to face us (foolish mortal!) [:D]

Yuri and I have wanted to team up for over a year now. So I don't think we're are particular. Find yourself some partners you like to team with and get back to us.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: Looking for a pair of experinced Japanese players (8/8/2012 11:04:43 PM)

I dont have any problem with that either. Good luck finding willing participants though. [:D]

Life's been tossing me curve balls but everything seems to be sorting itself out (finally!). I'd really like to get back into a game. I'm in the process of a move and settling into new duties\responsibilities at work so a late October or early November game sounds great - especially if I've got a partner to share some of the management with.

I'd like to take on the duties of Army & production and keep it a 2 X 2 game though (hoping Uncivil Engineer would be interested in taking on the naval, merchant marines, and sub duties).

Also - there are a lot of other toys out there for AE (thinking of some of the mods that are now available). Are you looking for a stock game or would everyone be interested in trying out one of the mods - maybe something from DaBabes or the Reluctant Admiral? I've really enjoyed playing on an extended map and I think you might also.

Totally agree.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: Looking for a pair of experinced Japanese players (8/12/2012 2:31:47 PM)

I'm pretty sure Steve has some mods installed but I have never tried any. With all due respect to the modders, I am afraid of bias. I know that Matrix has worked tirelessly to fine tune the game balance and there are still issues. When you start messing with that you get my nightmare scenario of starting a game for the long haul, spending months and months on it and then discovering that something about the mod is a game killer for you. I would go with one of the DaBigBabe scenarios. They were done by the AE developers and should be as save as the stock ones, which have problems themselves.

Totally agree.

I also agree.

I have 2 guys who are discussing between themselves whether they want to try a campaign game (due to the time requirements - they have young kids and full work schedules). We'll see how that goes.

Yes, extended map with stacking limits is the way to go. I'm currently playing Japan against the AI in Reluctant Admiral and was surprised when I overstacked attacking Clark Field by about 10,000 troops.

My thoughts on the "production player" would include having him do the merchant marine. He would be keeping track of resources and would know where they need to be moved from and to. Obviously, he and the navy commander would need to work out the sharing of the xAK's, but "production" would control all SC, PB, TB, and other miscellaneous "escort type" vessels. Both could do ASW with his available assets. And anything can be made OPCON to the other.

Also see my post above about others who may be interested in this game - I don't expect a decision anytime soon. But November is a ways off yet.

Still looking guys?

1EyedJacks -> RE: Looking for a pair of experinced Japanese players (8/12/2012 4:47:03 PM)

No worries - I didn't realize you had a pair of mates in mind for the game.

For myself I'd prefer to play either solo or as part of a 2-person tag-team.

If you guys do an AAR I'll follow along though!

TTFN,

Mike

I think you'd be great in either. Let us know. I am also looking for a single player.[:)]

U gota be kidding right guys? Steve vs Cap. It will end up with all of allied army guarding Balboa, while the entire japeanse army tours the antarctica. Sure will be fun to watch tho. Manual, we dont need no stinking manual should be title of AARs! [:'(]

Good luck dudes! I'll be happy to follow your AAR(s) if you write 'em up.

The 2x2 format was interesting, but vexing. I'd recommend-particularly if you're doing 1 day turns-putting an expected turn-around time on the turns. Otherwise, you'll be looking at a game that takes 15 years to play. [X(]

I totally agree with Comrade Red Mouse on this. Same goes for patches and the perpetual 'nerfing'/'de-nerfing'/'re-nerfing' pendulum of patch 'fixes'. It's maddening to keep up with the potential game-breaking changes. [:@]

I haven't played the Captain, But Simon is my mentor. He played/and taught me in my 1st couple of PBEM's back in Vanilla. I'm excited at going up against the master! Time to see if I've learned anything...[:D]

Different tactics against different players! One thing about Sprior and the Cap'n is that there is plenty of intelligence on their styles available! [:D] For me, not so much....[:(] I never could keep a journal, let alone a AAR.....[:(]

He's handed me my butt as well in a vanilla PBEM which I sadly had to abandon due to RL issues.

Would love to play you again Spri. [&o]

I have to agree. Andre and I had a wonderful PBEM scuttled because of "unperfected" mods. I am absolutely in agreement with CB and Comrade Red Mouse on this issue. [&o]

I'm honored by being included in the Yanks category. I usually end up lumped in as either "one of those Commies" or with the rats, voles and other rodents. [:D]
