Ironpaw -> Some newbie questions (12/9/2002 9:53:51 PM)

I have been back about 60 days in posts and that pre-screening helped some - I think I figured out how to lay mines now - which had me very baffled before. But I still have a few questions.

Replenishment - how exactly does that work - I have made the taskforce, filled the tanker with Fuel and met the CV Task force in a hex and let them sit for a day - thinking this would automatically replenish? Then I started to unload the cargo (fuel) thinking I had it figured out - but noticed after the turn I was on a small atoll and I think that is where my fuel - went not after two days of the Task force burning fuel waiting for replenishment I had to give up and send them to port. Can anyone help me out with this?

Also I have seen references to automating - replenishment - giving the computer control or this? and the same for creating convoys to move supplies? Any tips on how to do this? Is it in the options screen or something? And is it an all or nothing proposition - if I want auto transport, I can't manualy take over?

Thanx in advance for any help. I almost got the basics worked out.

Oh and an aside note - in V2.11 at least I think CAP is very ineffective - at least the Zeros are as I have only played IJN so far.

IP,

When you replen TF and their "target" are in the same hex, in the target TF detail screen, click on the "Replentish at sea" option on the right. Note that this can use lots of Ops points, so make sure your CVTF isn't close to the front when you do this.

I haven't automated replentishment, preferring to strictly control this myself (not sure where those defenseless tankers would end up!). For supply TFs, create the TF (I believe they have to be from and in Nou, BB, or Truk to do this), then click on "human" control (to change it to "computer"), then click the "move to" option and pick your target base. The "computer" note will change to "CS: " and away you go. That TF will take care of the rest. The option is per TF, not an overall setting for the game. So you can have some auto and some manual, your option.

Wow, thanx allot Toro.

Seems so simple now that it is explained. It might even be buried somewhere in the manual and I just skipped over it.

Another week or so and I might try a PBEM game.

Thanx again.

Just another wee bit of help - I asked this question myself - a replenishment tf will only replenish another tf if the other tf is under 50% fuel in its bunkers. Even pressing "replenish at sea" will not fill the tanks to the top.

If you want to unload the fuel from a replenishment tf - say the tf it was chasing has retired and you now want the fuel to be in port. Change the mission type of the replenishment tf to transport and then give it a target of the port you want to unload in. If it stays as a replenishment tf it will just sit in port with the fuel still loaded (which is what you may in fact want it to do - waiting for the combat TF to be ready again).

Thanx for the help Wobbly,

I actually have one sitting in port now, trying to unload the extra fuel - after a successful replenishment mission. I didn't check to see if the fuel was actually coming off though.

Thanx again. :)
