Distant Worlds is a great 4X game but It's race portraits are pretty horrible and boring looking. The portraits are basically the only thing that can give some character to the different races, otherwise they are just numbers... I know There are many races but surely making 20 small portraits is not that much is it? Awesome looking portraits would make the game that much better and add a lot of character to it. Please consider this.

It's all down to personal taste. Modding race images is easy, so I have combined my favourites from these forums, images from elsewhere on the web, and on some I like the original image. I would also like to bring Troop images to your attension. That is one of those mods that everyone should get. [&o]

How complete is it? It's a big improvement but Look at this indie project called Stardrive: stardrivegame(dot)com Look at the racial pictures in the screenshots segment. they don't look like some amateur quickly rendered them in 3dmax... IMO that's the kind of quality Distant worlds deserves, and the kind of quality any modern, self respecting, game should have. Good portraits are essential in a 4X game.

For me they are not "essential", merely "esthetic". How often do you view them in-game? If they were hand-drawn 6-year-old drawings, I would agree. Stardrive portraits are humongous Distant Worlds Only needs small portraits.

DistantWorlds is also made by an indie dev.I think Stardrive had a bigger art budget too as it models fully 3D galaxy and ships.
