So, I might very well be missing something obvious, but is there a way for me to tell what *type* of ship is being built at a construction yard using the construction yard window? All it shows me are their names (which I find totally useless) and the icon (which doesn't give me any information on the type of ship really).

I like to galnce at all the types of ships I am building across my yards, but I can't seem to find a way to do that.

As an aside, in general, I find myself fighting the interface to do simple things...

Thanks and sorry for the dumb question.

I always learn the ship icons before I get really annoyed by this lack. I can usually tell what kind of ship is building from the construction yard icon. If not, I notice the ship name, zoom to the yard and click on the yard to get a list of ships. Then click on the named ship to get it into the selection panel. Hope that stuff helps.

That's *really* annoying.

Another thing I fight with the interface over is simple movement of ships.

If I want to move a ship to a distant planet, I click to select that ship, but then almost always end up clicking the destination planet I want it to go to and so the ship is unselected. It's really frustrating. Isn't there an intuitive way to move ships? Or am I just too dumb or too new at this game?

thanks

you are right and it is frustrating sometimes,

normally you would think clicking show construction summary would give a name but it does not. 2 ways to view

either using
the ships and bases panel:
click the name column, at the top, to sort the ships and then scroll down to find the name that corresponds to what is being built

or

using the selection panel: (bottom left)
select the base in the main view
note the ships in the building query
orange - either a new build, repairing or dismantling.
white - upgrading to new design.

click on any of those icons to bring up the ship and if need be use the previous selection button or B to bring the base back to the selection panel. Then if you need to, double click the blue name of the base to bring up the ships and bases panel to show the yards.

It would be nice if you could select the ship in the construction yards and
a sort would be preformed above with that ship highlighted so you could eliminate steps.

The computer remembers what you have selected.
and the arrows above the selection panel are your helpers.

click on the ship you want to use.
now forget about the ship

scroll out and in to find where you want to go (scroll wheel, insert, home, delete, end keys)

Important :make sure the current view is unlocked (padlock beside ship name)
otherwise when you click back you will change the main view back to the ship you started with.

now click the arrow (previous)
this will bring back the focus on the ship and you can issue a command to it.
Because you are not locking the view the main view will be still on where you want to go. Hover over and select.
done.......

learn the arrows and remember that the computer remembers many selections in history, you can cycle back and pick
something you selected 10 selections ago and then issue a command at what you are looking at on the main view.

This is great for attack warnings and events.
select the message about the warning at the top and you can look back at any time with the arrow (previous) button.
