justai_meai -> Question for devs - font fix anytime soon? (9/10/2012 4:13:12 PM)

I'm asking this question of Matrix developers:

Is the small font/font blurriness issue going to be resolved within the next 30 days?

I need to know this so I can either include your game (or not) in my pre-holiday newsletter to parents in my school district where I recommend games they can buy their children for Christmas.

Thanks...

The font bluriness is due to running at a non-native resolution or with FSAA on. If the game menus are too small you can run at a lower resolution than your LCD's standard, but make sure to turn sharpness up to 100% on the monitor. That will help font bluriness a ton.

The font size, from what I gather probably won't be changed as that would require an overhaul of the entire interface. But they are looking at changing some interface elemnts that are used the most so we can use them properly at high resolutions (1920 and higher).

There must be a way to scale the interface and font with higher rez, sure you'd lose some quality on the interface icons but the font would be better.

I run at 2048x so I too find the fonts on the small side, thankfully I'm still relatively young so my eyes can cope. [:D]

Also the more you play the less you need to 'read' stuff so you acclimatise - but that shouldn't be an excuse for not accommodating higher rez users.

Are you guys developers of the DW for Matrix? Is that the official response? I'm currently running the game at the resolution I have set for my monitor - 1280x1024. The important point here is that one shouldn't have to change their screen resolution externally to play this game. Every other game that I play or test works fine on my current resolution - with no issues on fonts or bluriness. Matrix needs to put an internal control panel in the game for display options, but they have not. Again, every other game I play/test has this internal display option, but not this game. It seems to be a serious oversight by the developers, sorry to say. I don't think the answer is making the owner change most or all of his external monitor settings just to accomodate ONE game that doesn't know how to behave like all the rest. And I have to keep such things in mind when I recommend games for people to buy.

1280x1024 should work fine, but the resolution strikes me at one for old monitors? Also, size of display and distance to display are important when it comes to reading tiny stuff.

Noone that has posted here lately are developers, at least not for DW :) Matrix staff are clearly labled by avatar logos, and Elliot (which is the single developer) has a CodeForce avatar and is easy to spot.

I agree. I'm running 1920x1080 on a 23" LCD (native resolution, no antialiasing) and it is a real pain to read the font in this game. This is a critical issue that needs to be fixed.

Not official, just trying to give you the best answer based on what we have. And we all agree about font and scaling issues.
