jpinard -> Manual and Galactopedia disagree with each other (9/12/2012 2:44:26 AM)

I'm trying to figure some stuff out, and I'm finding many isntances where the Manual and the Galactopedia have different values or descriptions. For example, the manual says the Atuuk are Ursidians and have a 25% population bonus. But the Galactopedia says the Atuuk are Rodents and have a 36% population bonus. What's the real deal?

The wiki agrees with the manual, but the files in the game agree with the Galactopedia. I'm trying to make a chart of races and make my own as well and I'm confused who to beleive?

Just look into the race text file for the real ones. That aside the Galactopedia was not updated since Vanilla. It is totally out of date.

In the population growth case I suspect that the manual is out of date.  In RotS the Atuuk had a 24% growth rate.  In Legends this was changed to 36%.

Maybe the manual was not updated for Legends?

The Galactopedia although still not perfect had many revisions for Legends.

I would believe the game files though regardless.  They are what influences the mechanics.

Except there are two game files that state two different things outside of the Galactopedia. Question is, what was Elliot's intent? Atuuk as a Rodent or Ursidian?

No the race text file is the data board the game computes into the engine. It describes all characteristics and goals of a race ingame. It has nothing to do with the manual or the galactopedia.

From what ive read on here that is'nt correct, the race.txt file is redundant. The OP needs the race files in the races folder to work out whats what, makes me laugh as when I originally got DW I couldnt access the Galactopedia from within the game, now that I can its about as much use as a chocolate fireguard [8|]

And that is precisely why the Wiki aims to have all the latest info - and that is then why I am compiling ALL of the race values (around 110 numbers/entries per race) into a HUGE table, which will then be split to smaller tables by subject and added to the Wiki...

How can I be wrong? I mod this game! The race.txt file is the part the engine uses to compute the game and follow up on the settings to engage in goals and events. For diplomacy you need the bias file of course. But the manual or the galactopedia as wrong as they might be are not game breaking. They are just... well a manual. In the end the game follows up on the content of the text files to compute. If you want to know how the game handles something look into the core data.

nedrear,

I see this in the races.txt file in the core directory:

"'Races file - Distant Worlds 1.5.0.0"

This for me indicates this file is old and perhaps not used anymore (and it was not deleted in the newer patches), or it perhaps only serves the core game without expansions.

For Legends the TXT files in the races subdirectory are the defining files for every race...

... we got a communication error. Of course I mean the "put racename in here".txt file in the race folder. Not the leftovers before the modding redesign of elliot.
