I finally got the game running on my new laptop, and fired a fully developed (absentia) quickstart just to see how things run. I noticed my first fleet of 21 ships having 52 firepower, which seems a bit sad. Haakonish, latest patch (16). Escorts: No shields, no weapons. Illegal due to not having vector engine component. Frigates: No shields, no weapons. But have multi-vector (a whole one). Destroyer: As frigates Cruiser: Same Capital: 1 ion cannon, 2 nuclear devastators. No shields. It seems clear the game tries to equip main armaments and shields that are for some reason not available. And about a mature empire start: How likely is it that various stations and colonies are attacked by wildlife? Even if this empire has no weapons on their military ships, they probably had while settling, and cleared out the wildlife they stumbled across...
