Dan Nichols -> overdue withdrawl equals ops lossses (10/20/2012 1:08:34 AM)

I have a problem here. I had a number(12?) of air groups I forgot to withdraw. When I did withdraw them the
next turn, they were listed as ops losses:
This picture is the start of the turn with no orders input at all. It shows 2 ops losses and no B-17 losses at all.

This a picture after I withdrew the units in question.

I now have 38 ops losses for the turn and there are now 36 B-17E losses.

Here is a picture of the units that were withdrawn. Note that there are 36 damaged
aircraft in total for these units. It looks like damaged aircraft are going to
ops losses.

Damaged or repairing planes can be treated as ops losses with any group withdrawal that can't be absorbed by another group.

Well, they all were and I never got a screen to allow me to move the aircraft to another unit, even though
they are all at the same base and using the same aircraft.

save file if you need it.

You wont if the unit must withdraw. What I am saying is that ops loss due to withdrawing exists normally, nothing to do specifically with being overdue.

So I understand completely, if I disband any air unit that has to disband and it has damaged aircraft, they will be destroyed and listed as ops losses?

Although a bit hard to clearly spot, those units are probably all permanent withdrawals in which case the aircraft (and pilots) don't go into the pools anyway.

This is the way it has always been.
However, the reason for it is to stop players from withdrawing groups (with damaged planes) from units in combat, and being able to use them as replacements immediately.
Groups in the player's main base are immune to the loss of damaged planes in this case.
Logically we could extend that to cover groups withdrawing from bases in mainland Japan and USA.

All of the units are permanent withdrawals. When I withdraw them I get the message

"Group will be withdrawn
Planes and Pilots to pools
Proceed?"

That is why I am confused, usually if you are going to lose the aircraft and
pilots it tells you.
