The SS Panzergrenadiers hunched down low in their SPW as in moved along the frozen earth road, the tracks crunching the hardened ice. In front of them the massive shape of the Tiger tank that was leading the column west stood out in stark contrast to the winter sky. SS Sturmbanfuhrer Jochen Peiper, standing in his command SPW, watched as his kampfgruppe drove slowly westward, the sound of gunfire in the distance. Peiper drives forward in his befelswagen to the lead Tiger and issues orders to deploy for battle. Behind him the SPW’s and StuG III’s move off the road on either side and panzergrenadiers dressed in white winter quilted uniforms, dismount from their SPW’s, weapons at the ready. Haupsturmfuhrer Gunsche, commander of the 11 Company of the 1 SS Panzergrenadier Rgt, leads his men towards the front of the column and the Tigers that are in the lead. He waves his men forward towards the crossroads where the road has been blocked by fallen logs. The lead Tiger fires at the roadblock and the logs splinter up in the cold winter air. Peiper watches in his binoculars for a sign of the hidden enemy.
Ardennes, 1944, Right? Wrong!!. This is the first Kampfgruppe Peiper. A scenario dedicated to the Kunel, Wild Bill Wilder and his XO, Figmo Faletti.
