Similarly to the other two expansions I guess...

Indeed.
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=3295213

Planned release date was April, which is now just around the corner. I wouldn't mind waiting to May if it means a more polished release.

Mad Igor -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (3/30/2013 3:34:35 PM)

patches is out of fashion ?
we can play as it will be,and the patches will polish it.

Sirian -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (3/31/2013 8:54:27 AM)

I would still rather wait to play a polished and more "finished" product than have an early game experience that has to be patches numerous times because of bugs or balance issues. I do not like the "shove it out of the door we'll patch it later" strategy that so many games have been ruined with.

Hister_MatrixForum -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (3/31/2013 2:50:10 PM)

Better polish at a release means better reviews and thus better sales...

jpwrunyan -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (3/31/2013 7:30:06 PM)

I am sure that no matter how "polished" it gets, it will still require patches. So everybody wins.
Cynical, perhaps, but I hope the devs don't take it personally when I say the *current* game is still rough around the edges.

That said, put me down in the "release it later" column.

Simulation01 -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (3/31/2013 8:44:31 PM)

Well, I'm ready for it now. It's been in development for a while. Also, knowing that an awesome expansion is on the way has left me completely uninterested in the current state of the game. I'm also ready to try the new Eve and Mass Effect mod's that's in development.

It's just a definition thing, where to draw the line. That it will get patches post release is a given, seeing earlier releases. Even Blizzard puts out a lot of patches for their games, even though their games are said to be very balanced and polished at release.

I'm fine with a release that is free from major bugs and possible game-breaking things. It would be nice to see some of the old quirks fixed too.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 4:15:43 PM)

Keep your eyes open today, should be a good announcement.

AminMaalouf -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 5:17:16 PM)

Looks great to me, thanks for developping that dream ...

and I guess the order buttom appears when it is released vers the end of the month or so. [;)]

For some, I bought all the games in this series and they stopped working. Can't get them to work for some reason(Vista64). I tried all suggestions but a no-go. I'am not wasting anymore money.[:o][:-]

Did you already work with our help desk? If so, please e-mail me at erikr@matrixgames.com. Please note that if we can't get one of our games to work on your system, we'll give you a refund. DW works on every Windows system we've tested, but obviously we're not expecting folks who for whatever reason can't play the game to buy the sequels.

Regards,

- Erik

Erik Rutins -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 5:28:25 PM)

Posting some higher resolution versions of the new screenshots here. Note the assault pod entering the atmosphere from the orbital space in the ground combat screen, about to land on the planet and unload its troops.

A preview of the Graviton Beam specs. That's the entry level gravitic weapon.

Note also the color coding for components on the left side where the required resources are not available.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 5:34:39 PM)

Thanks Erik, but no refund is required, thanks for the offer. The first game Distant Worlds worked fine, bought the second one and it worked for awhile. Never could get the last one to work-I bought it even though the second game in series stopped working for me. The help desk did try to help some, tried all of the suggestions but couldn't it run any longer. Great system, just seems some people struggle to keep it running. And again thanks for the refund offer but not neccessary.[:)]

Still, drop me an e-mail if you are willing with a description of the issue you're experiencing with Legends. I'll take this direct to Elliot and see if we can figure it out.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 5:38:00 PM)

A well-developed Zenox world defended by both Infantry and Armor. Note that Special Forces are very good at targeting and eliminating planetary facilities (and planetary defense units), which adds another dimension to the ground war. Without that Armor Factory or Fortified Bunker, it's a different war. Planetary defense units are similarly excellent at destroying invading troops before they land.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 5:41:13 PM)

A Dhayut homeworld with infantry, armor and planetary defense units.

Each troop type has different attack and defense strengths, different size for transport and different maintenance levels. Each can be upgraded through their unique branch in the new ground combat tech tree.

Note also the troop types with green backgrounds in the planet details, these are garrisoned. You can have the automation set garrison levels automatically. You can also set them manually. Garrisoned troops will never be loaded by transports and removed from the planet, they stay and defend it.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 5:43:23 PM)

Another invasion underway. Note also the resource shortage message in the planet detail screen. We've added a great deal of information to the player in the various screens and also in event messages to make it easy to know why something has stopped building and what you need to get it started again.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows (4/5/2013 5:53:01 PM)

A view of the Gravitic Weapons tree, including one of the new Gravitic Area Weapons. These are very fun. They don't extend out from the ship, instead they target a point in space and create a gravitic distortion there, along with pulses of tremendously strong gravity that can destroy ships and bases. When one of these goes off, you see the ships in the area pulled in towards its center and shaken to pieces.
