I would 'highly' recommend reading "A World Undone" by G.J. Meyers. Best one volume book on WWI I have ever read. It also is very readable, unbiased and comprehensive. I find Guns of August dated, extremely one-sided and of course only covers the opening of the war. Tuchman does write very well though.

You want a really complex WW1 game. The World War One Gold game that Matrix sells basic manual is only 228 pages, with lots of special rules for each country on top of the regular rules. That game is the result of a board game converted to a PC game, so be carefull of what you ask for.[:D]

I have not bought this game yet, but I suspect that this learning curve will not be as steep as the World War One Gold learning curve is.

If anyone picks up WWI Gold here, I suggest going to the AGEOD forums and downloading the latest update. It fixes many issues and will give you the monster tabletop-to-PC conversion some people are looking for.

I enjoy that game, but it certainly has a learning curve and can be slow-going at times. So I'm also enjoying CTGW right now because it's so much easier to fire up and get moving along without having to re-study up on a lot of details. They're on different ends of the difficulty spectrum and I like them both for their individual strengths. Especially CTGW's AI opponent - nice work guys! [8D]

About 64 pages - so about half the size of WITE.

OK, thanks. Also, the current PDF for WitE is over 300 pages. [;)]

Goodness. I was going by my original [X(]

CtGW manual is beer and pretzels compared to WiTE's manual, believe me!

No, I do not believe you here. Not at all!

The manual is, in comparison to the manual of Wite, more like a postage stamp.
I think that's closer to the truth.
