Warhangel -> Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 11:33:28 AM)

Hi,

Next problem - the intro starts in full screen regardless of the setting. After the intro, or if during the intro to press ESC, is CTD.

I have the latest Intel drivers. VC++ tried to reinstall. I have also tried to reinstall the game.

No file ctgw.log in "My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War".
There error.txt in the game directory - it is written "KERNEL MEMORY CHECKING IS ** OFF **"
Directx Dialog and glewinfo - in attachment.

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 11:35:11 AM)

glewinfo - not attached to first message.

Lord Zimoa -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 11:42:06 AM)

Could you try something, if your restart you see the first launcher, so to change settings and disable Intro movie, select your desired resolution and if you want full screen or not and hit play.

Does the game start up for you?

Lord Zimoa -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 11:45:42 AM)

And be sure to update you Intel Graphic drivers and install the Open GL that comes with the game and is asked to install at the end of the install phase.

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 11:50:20 AM)

Changing the settings does not help - the intro anyway and always runs in full screen.
All that the installer offered to install - I installed (although as I recall, there was proposed to install OpenAL, not OpenGL).
Drivers have the latest version, as I wrote.

Lord Zimoa -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 11:54:32 AM)

There should be a button you can check or un-check in the change settings to play or not the Intro. So the movie always plays even with the Play Intro Movie unchecked?

Lord Zimoa -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 11:59:44 AM)

A CTD after Intro means something is wrong with the install maybe corrupt download, Please try to de-install, redownload and install again everything. If the game still crashes, please let us know.

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 12:14:15 PM)

1. Intro always played, although Launcher.ini everything is OK:
FIRST FALSE
REZ 6
REZ_X 1280
REZ_Y 960
REZ_BPP 32
Fullscreen FALSE
VSync FALSE
Intro FALSE

2. As I wrote - I tried to reinstall and game and VC++ - does not help. Before that, I downloaded again. As well just in case I installed the game from the same file to another PC - everything is OK.

Lord Zimoa -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 12:16:53 PM)

Ok thanks, we will investigate and come back to this, thanks for all the files.

johnnybravo -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/14/2012 7:24:21 PM)

It looks like Visual C++ 2008 Runtime problem. Did you install it during game installation?

In any case: go to game installation dir (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Commander The Great War") then open "redist" directory and launch "vcredist_x86.exe". If it is installed already pick "Repair".

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/15/2012 5:36:15 AM)

As I wrote in the first message - it does not help.
I tried to install VC++ with the game and separately, and do "Repair" and reinstallation.
Nothing helps :(

Myrddraal -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/15/2012 9:23:31 AM)

One thing to check, do you have multiple versions of the VC++ redistributable installed? You can check this by looking in the add/remove programs list. If you have more than one, try uninstalling them all and re-installing the version that comes with the game.

Let me know if that's the problem or not...

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/15/2012 10:45:38 AM)

Yes - it was 4 versions of VC++.
Delete them all, rebooted the PC, install the version from the game folder, rebooted PC.
Does not work - all the same :(

Myrddraal -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/15/2012 10:50:43 AM)

Hmm, I was sure that was going to be it. I know this is a pretty generic troubleshooting step, but could you check / update your video card drivers?

Is there still no log file in "My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War"?

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/15/2012 11:21:59 AM)

Intel site say that I have the latest driver 8.15.10.2555.

In "Documents" only Launcher.ini.

VPaulus -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/15/2012 2:18:06 PM)

Try to disable your Internet Security software.
This one is also a generic procedure but worth checking.

Montez12 -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/15/2012 9:34:42 PM)

Sound issue?

johnnybravo -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/16/2012 9:34:48 AM)

Is there a "Save" directory inside "Document\My Games\Commander The Great War"? If not, please create it manually and try running the game again.

You have OGL 1.5 so we will make you game work.

m10bob -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/16/2012 6:40:51 PM)

Hello..I downloaded the game and have a different error message..It reads as follows :Fatal Error:Extension Missing:ARB_VERTEX_Buffer_Object....................Had no problem with the intro whatsoever, only got the error message upon hitting "Play"....

BTW:My first install went to c:Program Files(default), and my second I just installed to C: (to avoid possible Win7 issues).......

VPaulus -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/16/2012 7:13:50 PM)

That's a different issue probably. That usually indicates that you've no OpenGL installed, m10bob.
Could you please open a thread with this issue, and we can go on from there?

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/21/2012 11:36:59 AM)

I apologize for the delay in answering - I'm on vacation until the 3rd of November and still can not continue the experiments for this PC.

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/22/2012 5:34:00 AM)

Just in case - I have no Internet Security software on this PC. Just antivirus - ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.

That's an old version (more than one year). You should update (it's free) to Antivirus 5. That's the version I use in my desktops.

OCBBerlin17 -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/28/2012 8:04:22 PM)

Hi, I have the same problem!

Everything (drivers and so on) are up to date. The game crashes after a short black screen and goes back to the desktop. It must be an VC++ problem I guess. But VC++ is working and I have a savegame without any file in it.

Could it be that my Norton Internet Security (newest version) is still blocking something, even if disabled? In the Norton Virus list there is allwaya this one blocked, even if disabled!

Have you tried running the game under administrator rights?

OCBBerlin17 -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (11/28/2012 10:03:31 PM)

Yes, I have all administrator rights.

I noticed that CEAW (have this one too) is opening an seperated window at the start of the game which is something like C:\Programme\Java\JRE7\BIN\JQS.EXE

CTGW doesnt do this. Could this be the problem?

Warhangel -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (12/3/2012 12:48:54 PM)

Hi all,

I played this game during holiday on the laptop.
Unfortunately, I came to the conclusion that from my point of view, it is, in some places, not too historical (which is strange for a game based on history), and in some places - on the contrary (which is odd for a game that allows to change history). Also, not too much attention paid to diplomacy :(

So I decided to go back to the Panzer Corps. Fortunately, this game starts without problems whenever I tried ;)

Thanks for trying to help!

Lord Zimoa -> RE: Crash to desktop after intro (12/16/2012 12:29:06 PM)

I really advise to check at you graphic manufacturer websites to double check you have the latest drivers installed and not rely on Windows checking it, we see in 90% in the cases especially with ATI and Intel graphical drivers they are the cause of this kind of errors:

So double check, I know it is a pain, but I had the same with two of our test machines during Beta:

To avoid conflicts, please first make sure you update and use your latest Graphic Video Card drivers!!!

Check for latest Intel Drivers:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com

Check for latest ATI (AMD) drivers:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Check for latest NVIDIA drivers:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If you by any accident use Windows/Documents in Greek or Russian Cyrillic, see here for a hotfix (we include it in the upcoming final patch, but at least it will allow Russian/Greek users to play the game)

Yeah, just bought this and am having the same problem. Did all the sugestions and still can't get it to work. Since I also bought the game on disk thought I would try again when it arrives and see if it will run then. I hope so or I guess I'll be out of luck. Really disappointed, as I have never had any trouble with Matrix games in the past. Anyway hope there is a fix for this eventually.
