Itdepends -> Possible bug- Fighters escorting transport missions beyond max range (11/22/2012 11:42:59 AM)

Last turn I was running transport missions to Kai-Eilanden (a dot hex which I recently took from the Japanese). I had a P40E squadron set to escort, range 6 hexes, drop tanks on based at Gove (12 hexes away).

My opponent (Stanislav) asked how I managed to get P40's to Kai-Eilanden as I have no bases within range. I saw nothing in the combat replay but after reviewing the allied operations report and turn I can see that the 343rd squadron has lost 25 P40K's in the last 2 day turn (the same number of P40K's showing as losses in the aircraft loss summary screen). I also see in the operations report the 343rd involved in combat which does not show up in the combat reports. (See op's report excerpt below). These fighters should not have been able to reach Kai Eilanden from Gove- there may be a range check bug for escorts associating with transport missions.

well, losing 25 fighters in two days. Maybe they were ordered to fly it one way only - and ditch afterwards :)

Replay here (renamed file extension to .zip- for some reason I remember you had to do that)

Should also add I'm playing the last official patch 1108r9

I also lost fighters on a long range mission. I have some P-38G's based at Rennells Island and I did a sweep of Rabaul at 22k. There were 25 in the squadron when I set the sweep, the program took it. But the next day I was down to 11. I lost 3 to air to air and I assume the rest, or 11, ran out of gas. Hard lesson to learn about long range sweeps.

Transport escorts are going beyond range. Will fix.

Cheers Michael- I didn't even realise you could escort transport missions!
