Fancy Pants & Funnel Cakes:
Canton cracked big-time today; big Allied attack up near Tsinan tomorrow; Korea stable (and that's what I want until I bring back the next big slug of supply in about three weeks).

2/25/45

Fancy Pants & Funnel Cakes: Enemy defense at Canton is collapsing. Allies are advancing in good order in north China, where the main stack is about to destroy the main (but very weak now) enemy stack. The situation is stable in Korea. KB is raiding South China Sea.

BBfanboy -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/12/2017 3:44:08 PM)

Why is that Chinese unit moving from Canton to HK? Recovery of disablements after battle? Garrison replacement for other Allied unit? Invasion of Hainan?

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/12/2017 3:49:00 PM)

Engineers to help build Hong Kong as quickly as possible. It's currently a 5(7) airfield. Each level is worth 80 points, so I'm hoping to "harvest" an additional 320 points if the game last long enough to reach level 9.

KB Raid, South China Sea: John is busy swatting at flies out in the South China Sea. But this is important, because Allied forces are coalescing in the DEI. Right now John is out of position to respond but he probably still has time to rectify that...if he can tear himself away from this raid.

KB RAID 0

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/12/2017 5:56:08 PM)

DEI: Massive Allied forces coalescing in the DEI, preparatory to the next big supply run to China. This is the most important operation currently ongoing, even more important than protecting Korea.

I hope to have about seven to ten more days before triggering the supply run. I'd like to detach Mini Death Star to the Derby vicinity to escort in a bunch of merchantmen coming up from Perth.

All told, this next convoy will include well over a million supply. It'll probably be enough to fund the rest of the game, since about 80% of it will go to Korea (some will go to Shanghai and Ningpo, but not much).

The reinforcements include BB Missouri, three slow BBs, three fleet CVs, a handful of CVEs, and an assortment of other stuff.

John should react sharply by committing everything he has. I do think he'll recall his South China Sea carriers. If necessary, I'll detach Death Star (or at least its fleet CVs) to handle escort duties.

Fancy Pants & Funnel Cakes:
The Japanese position in China has collapsed just about everywhere. The Allies are harvesting a lot of "efficient" points in in army losses. The focus will soon turn to Korea. But first, the Allies simply have to address fuel and supply delivery from the DEI.

A complicated, challenging, fun puzzle to solve.

Lecivius -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/12/2017 6:39:45 PM)

I seriously question if a million is enough. Remember, you are going to be feeding civilians as well as troops as well as replacements/upgrades(aka allied supply is always dribbling away). Just to be safe, are you keeping the supply chain in motion in the back ground?

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/12/2017 7:30:24 PM)

Supply chain always in operation, just in case.

But I think this will be enough. Korea is an "island," for my purposes. Supply will now dribble out to every hex in China, as was an issue with my last delivery. So this supply will be used to fund combat and air force operations in Korea. If it doesn't see me through, it'll at least last for several months (even the last delivery of a similar amount has lasted that long).

South China Sea: Things popped a bit today as Allied LBA sank CA Myoko and a DD.

I've also triggered the Death Star re-supply mission. Supply is okay in Korea and Formosa, but has become pretty critical in China. I can't afford to fly any more 4EB missions.

The resupply op will take at least three weeks. It'll be interesting to see how John reacts - where does South China Sea KB go and how fast?

DEI: A complicated coalescing of Allied merchantmen is developing. All should reach Boela in about ten days - in time for Death Star inbound from Manila.

This is a major operation of immense importance. Will John bring his carriers in? I think so, but for at least a week I should have the freedom to get everything shepherded to Boela, where they'll be safe.

Fancy Pants & Funnel Cakes: The Japanese are on the march in Korea and are fading badly in China.

anarchyintheuk -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/13/2017 6:09:22 PM)

Any area that you can transfer your 4ebs for profitable use? Don't want those slackers getting comfortable.

BBfanboy -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/13/2017 8:49:38 PM)

I presume John's search aircraft have tracked enough big convoys heading to Boela that he knows that is your hub.
It's amazing to me that he does not recognize that as the crux of your invasions and that even risking a mauling of KB would be worthwhile to smash your hub there. Of course, he may be daunted by the numbers of ships waiting there exceeding the number of bombs KB can carry! [:D]

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/13/2017 10:29:40 PM)

I just completed a census of the supply at and nearing Boela. There's 940 inbound. There's 860 already there. A little more will be loaded aboard ship there before the armada leaves in about a week. All told: nearly 2 million supply.

Sometime soon I'll tell you guys what was actually going on at Boela - why and how it was vulnerable. I understand why it daunted John, but there was a fair bit of smoke and mirrors going on.

DEI: A complicated dance to get supply forward to Boela ASAP, including a bit of chance taking down near Broome. I think the missions will be complete in a week, so that all these merchantmen can leave Boela, if Death Star arrives by then (it should).

South China Sea: Every day that KB loiters is important, both to the supply mission in the DEI and to the slim possibility that Death Star might go hunting

Fancy Pants & Funnel Cakes: All opposition eliminate at Canton today. Huzzah!

John is jazzed about Korea. I want him to be jazzed but I don't want him to succeed. It's going to be a bit of a tight-rope walk until Death Star returns.

3/2/45

Battle of Gunzan: With Death Star away, John chooses this day to engage in the Battle of Gunzan. He sends in his big guns against the three Allied combat TFs posted to protect the key port. The Battle of Korea may turn on what happens next. And the Battle of Gunzan opens with this:

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/14/2017 2:23:01 PM)

3/2/45

Battle of Gunzan Opens: The Japanese TF takes on the strongest Allied TF to open the battle. It's violent and the Japanese prevail. Gulp.

3/2/45

Battle of Gunzan: The Fletcher TF evens the score and more...and the enemy TF includes E-Class ships? The Japanese navy is hurting.

3/2/45

Battle of Gunzan: Hard fighting at close quarters. Now Nagato is hurting.

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/14/2017 2:44:42 PM)

3/2/45

Battle of Gunzan: A PT TF tangled with Nagato to no effect and Narwhal missed a shot at an IJN DD. Then this PT TF tangled with Musashi.

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/14/2017 2:52:10 PM)

3/2/45

Battle of Gunzan: Bereft of CA Boston, the remaining Allies ships cross the T against Tanaka and finish of Nagato.

[image]local://upfiles/8143/9836528B2BD64BE6A4A436C9894F64F4.jpg[/image]

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/14/2017 2:57:49 PM)

Musashi took four torps and should be out of the war, at least as an effective ship. Nagato sunk. Several enemy DDs and Es sunk.

The Allies lose CA Boston and at least one DD with several others heavily damaged.

I think this was John's best remaining naval TF in the Home Islands vicinity. Too much of his fighting power is off raiding the South China Sea (with a purpose - I think his plan was to draw Death Star this way).

This may have been decisive to the Battle of Korea. To win the battle, John has to control the sea and air. This may have been his best shot.

I expect a short lull now. I'm probably going to bring in some big, fast BBs from Ningpo. I'm worried about the air threat, but Gunzan airfield will go to level 8 in a day or two.

FlyByKnight -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/14/2017 2:59:33 PM)

Looks like you've had your Leyte Gulf-style engagement for the Korean invasion.

Canoerebel -> RE: The Good The Bad & The Indifferent (12/14/2017 2:59:50 PM)

3/2/45

Miri: While the fate of empires is decided at Gunzan, three enemy CAs bombard Miri to minimal effect. I think John was hoping to blunt the newly placed Allied bombers there.

3/2/45

Raid On Singapore: Just before the IJN CAs bombarded Miri, Allied 4EB based there hit Singers.
