Hey guys, I like to have a lot of carbon fibre, since it seems its used to build almost every ship component for warships.

I have 2 planets which have it. I havent built a fleet or many ships for a long time, or anything much, since I have only had one war early on in the game. But I've watched it decline in my stocks from 30k - 7k. Is this the result of trade with other empires?

The galaxy stock says 35k and the galaxy demand is 580k.

How can I stop the AI trading away my carbon fibre?

KAHUNA -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 4:11:04 PM)

good point..some people want more of certain resources in game and some less so maybe add an option that could make most everyone happy? I've tried the editor but after adding more there didn't seem to be any differences and things were still bogging down due to lack.

Could be due to ships retro-fitting? You may not have built any but if the ships you already have are being upgraded that would also take from the stock of Carbon Fibre.

Whatever the reason for the shortages I'd like to see an option in the game beginnings that allowed a "no shortage" option.I know some will not want this but they can use the other settings for their own private galaxy conquerings[:)]

Cruis.In -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 5:19:05 PM)

id like to be able to specify which resources it trade from which i dont

KAHUNA -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 5:21:55 PM)

that would be nice too..or an option to add limits to certain ones..good ideas!!

Cruis.In -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 6:08:29 PM)

hey question, if I propose a free trade agreement with an empire whom i have a mutual defense pact with, does it cancel the defense pact? I did this and they accepted the free trade....

Implementing such an option would de facto mean removing the entire resource system from the game. I think that would really subtract from deepness, immersion and the "living galaxy" feel of the game.

Yes, the free trade agreement replaces the MDP. In RP terms I think of it as empires drifting away from each other, cancelling their military obligations but wishing to remain on friendly terms. [:)]

The whole point of this game is having no abstraction in the economy.

Cruis.In -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 8:37:48 PM)

so does the defense pack include a free trade??

also I was living peacefully minimal miliary. 30 ships for 4 systems. My systems packed with mining and gas stuff. The strongest empire in the game declared war on me. And while i was able to repel there attack, they invaded and took over my main colony. Had no troops on my colonies either ahha. Really being a miser even tho I had 12 mil. Anyway ship building and stockpiles was not a problem, I could churn out ships fast, and I built a fleet fast. The problem was in all the mayhem He kept warping around and destroying all my gas mining.

Eventually even tho my economy was -265k even after 5 years of war I had only lost 1 mil. Still had 12 mil. And I could sell all my tech the most lowest empires for millions if I wanted too. So money and ship building wasn't the problem.

The problem was fuel.

I can't believe that after mining the whole game for many many years, from starting tech to about 75% everything researched, that my space ports could be out of fuel, just because my mining stations had been destroyed. Don't they store the fuel on the space ports? Do I need more cargo in my mining stations so they can keep mining? Whats the deal? Does the AI automatically upgrade mining stations to the latest build? more cargo room and better mine extractors etc??

Can anyone explain where all my fuel would go or how i could stockpile fuel on my space ports in large excess so this doesnt happen?

The new ships would be built without fuel.

Theluin -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 9:04:31 PM)

To answer your questions:

Yes, the MDP includes a free trade agreement, what's more it includes a better version of it (one that gives you 40% of the trade generated between the 2 empires instead of 20%, the income bonus isn't instant though - it slowly rises from 0% as the treaty stays in effect and maxes out at those values)

Concerning fuel:

Fuel is being constantly used up by your freighters, other ships and even bases when they use their weapons (unless you put really massive amounts of collectors on them).

Resource storage on colonies is unaffected by the cargo bays on the spaceport (meaning you can put as many or as few as you want and it wont matter, though I'm not sure if you don't have to have at least 1 cargo bay). As far as I remember one an store only a max amount of 20k of each resource on a colony.

Using the AI designs each ship (except for the big ones) has a fuel capacity around 300-400 so as you see only about 60 ships need to refuel in order to drain a planet completely. So that's where I suspect your fuel disappeared [:)] If you're doing ship design manually then it might be a good idea to design private ships to use a different fuel type than state ships.

Also it is currently impossible to retrofit bases not built at colonies (ie. mining stations) though Erick did say they were working to include that possibility in Shadows.

KAHUNA -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 10:48:42 PM)

I disagree,,the whole point is to have fun and possibly win..one of the distractions is the resource problems and I take it you would be one of the ones who would not like my option idea but why not let it be just that?An option! Not a game changer that everyone would have to follow.. if you like the way it works then you get the "option" of keeping it as is..and I'd have the option of no resource limits.Would that be so bad?[:)]

I think my answer to this would be the same as the one to ASHBURY76. I mention the word "option" because then you get to keep your version of happiness in the game and I can implement mine if I so desire also.Please note the word "option"...[;)]

Cruis.In -> RE: trading (12/1/2012 11:54:30 PM)

theluin, how do i get the state ships to use different fuel?

Ok we need a feature where we can specifiy, FUEL RESERVED FOR MILITARY SHIPS ONLY? YES

that we can check at a star port or mining station.

KAHUNA -> RE: trading (12/2/2012 12:06:35 AM)

Different reactors use different fuels.To change from one to another you switch out reactors for that certain fuel you want to use.

Cruis.In -> RE: trading (12/2/2012 5:33:40 AM)

ok figured that out.

Check this now. I have a space port which has 65 THOUSAND (65K) hydrogen. my ships have hyperfusion reactors. They are going to another further away space port to fuel up.
I check the cargo on the space port nearest and all of the hydrogen is reserved. Why? For who? Why would the AI do this when my fleet needs the fuel from that star port? DW is so lovely for customization etc, but some minor areas of customization such as this it doesn't allow us to control makes it very frustrating.

Fueling and refueling and repairing etc is always a very hit and miss process. You don't know or you are not told what you might be needing or how much, if you dont have it or have enough etc, no message saying "well fleet can't repair, waiting on XX"

can't stop AI from trading your valuables that you want to keep. SHould be an amount u can set to keep, keep X amount trade anything in excess of that.

But why a star port is reserving fuel and all of it I dont know. Its a far off star port i built on a planet i took over too. So its not like you could say its keeping the fuel for my nearby civillians fleet.

KAHUNA -> RE: trading (12/2/2012 11:16:50 AM)

Yes,,that is frustrating.Is there a flag in front of the hydrogen fuel reserved?If so that's the ones who have it on reserve.
I think it's been discussed here somewhere about the re-fueling issues and I am not sure if that's been addressed yet as a "feature" of some sort or an over looked part of the game that needs tweaking.I have tried to give specific refueling orders to my fleets at times but it gets tiresome to inform each and every one to go to the nearest place for the fuel so I feel your pain.
I never really thought about the AI being the one that is causing shortages by selling to other Empires before your own gets it's share until you brought it up here.Is this some sort of artificial stopgap measure intentially added in the game to slow down the building process?If so I'd like to implement my own option plan I have talked about here earlier so that I can open up my Empire's full potential and see what my boys can do [:)]

Cruis.In -> RE: trading (12/2/2012 3:06:38 PM)

the refueling, reserves needs to be addressed or explained, since with the economy, no one has a 100% clue how it is functioning underneath

While I'm generally one who likes more options, I see a critical problem in the game with your request. If there were no resource limits, there would be no strategic value in game for the different planets. So no one would covet your colonies and resources and the whole inter-relationship engine would need to be re-written to give AI powers a different reason to go to war.

If you dislike resource shortages you can always use the editor to give yourself whatever you need in your game right now. But changing such a fundamental aspect of the game as strategic resources is probably not something they would consider doing I bet.

Jim

KAHUNA -> RE: trading (12/2/2012 11:11:47 PM)

I am in dis-agreement with your statement. If you've read my posts there is one that clearly states that I have indeed tried the editor to no avail[2nd post in this thread].The shortages themselves as they stand[in my opinion] represent an "artificial" lack.How can there be this lack if I'm already in control of most of the galaxy[several games I've already played] where there was a lack of chromium and carbon fibres[towards endgame] that blocks[and slows] my construction projects? My idea would be an option [only if it's checked] for those certain people [like myself] who would enjoy the game without this blockage.Others [who enjoy this lack of materials] do not have to check that option and can play the game as they also please. Re-write?Only the developer can really say if that's needed or not.
As far as my neighbors coveting my resources that would still go on because there would still be the haves..and the have nots, because of the conquest part of the game.Keep the Loros fruit and that rare spice[didnt want to try to misspell that] as the things they can covet and keep a limit on those if needed. I've already put this into request form in the wish list and the developer can determine if it's worthy and how much trouble it would be to do this.
I'm not advocating a radical change here..I do like and enjoy the game very much. Thank you![:)]
