sjohnson -> Air support saves (12/1/2012 10:56:39 PM)

Helpless - per the thread in the main forum.

I have tried all manner of air doctrine settings. Here are some saves. I saved these as .jpg so you will have to rename as .sav when downloaded.

Turn 1 - German settings.

And - next pre Soviet attacks.

And post Soviet attacks.

Germany deploys about 650 fighters, 700 level bombers, and 700 tactical bombers. Of these the following sorties are flown:

Fighter - 909 total
Tactical/Bomber - 128 total

How do I get more tactical/bomber sorties? I have tried all manner of air doctrine settings - higher percentages, lower percentages, no intercept to preserve fighter escorts but I still get about 5-7% of the German air flying - and note the tactical and bomber units have not flown any other missions in the German turn for months so they should be well rested and available.

When I tried to download these, it tries to open the file and just gets a blank window and I can't figure out if there is a way to save it. Can you rename it to something else or email it to 2by3@2by3games.com. Thanks.

Saves sent to 2by3 email. I can send several more showing very similar behavior.

Thanks for the saves. My first thought after seeing your doctrine settings is that a Ground Support settings of just 30 is low and won't get a lot of ground support flights. I tried setting it up to 60 in a very quick test and it did seem to get more bombers flying as I'd expect. Did you try that in your tests? Since your bombers are in good shape, the percent required to fly isn't very important, but the Ground Support setting is. If you really want more bombers to fly, you can even increase the GS setting higher. I tried setting it to 300 and the fighter escorts to 10 and I got many more bombers flying.

I seem to have same problem. Mostly escorts only, only very few bombers if any. tried to change settings with no real help. Latest beta patch and hotfix.

You can post a save or email it to 2by3@2by3games.com. Please post a before save (that is just before a few attacks that are having low ground support), and tell us what attacks to execute. I'd look at doctrine settings first (percent needed to fly and ground support settings). As I said, in the save I got, I was able to increase ground support in the air doctrine, and got plenty of support to fly.

latosusi -> RE: Air support saves (12/31/2012 7:33:03 PM)

Just about all attacks had low support or just fighters. Even fighter levels are low.

Here's a save with similar issues. Initiate attacks with units from 2nd, 11th, 16th, 18th Armies and 2nd, 3rd and 4th Panzer Armies.

I can produce much better air support by attaching all air bases to Luftflotte 2 but after trying that in a new game ground support is still spotty at best.

I went through the beta saves on my hard drive and ground support worked normally in 1.05.45 so something changed for me between that and 1.06.00

Helpless -> RE: Air support saves (1/3/2013 11:18:18 PM)

Current system picks the staging base which can provide most of the planes for the particular target hex. In case of GS it can happen that staging base selected won't match the air hq supporting particular ground HQ. I'll change it to pick the closest in case of GS. It won't fix no fly cases caused by suboptimal air doctrine settings I've seen in many saves.
