Lady and Gentlemen

I know that, with 4-5 exceptions, the beauty contests over on the General Discussion forum have not been your bag. Fair enough. However, I hope I have something on offer that is more to the liking of the navy-knowledgable people here.

Like the thread title says, I am looking for the most beautiful ships of WWII. The first category up for grabs is the most beautiful of the Fast Battleships. There are two groups of three, and I am looking for 1 vote per person in each group please. If you fancy it, please drop by the Australian Beauties thread and cast your vote.

Note: we are talking aesthetics only here - not war record.

I think one should consider the Bismarck-Class to be amongst the top 5 ;)

very nice lines...

Well she's in Group 1 - along with Vittorio Veneto and King George V if you fancy voting for her. Personally I vote for your avatar [;)]

Would be good to have a few more voters.

Yes, but she's not a fast battleship. She will be in the battlecruisers competition no doubt.

Bismark should be disqualified - just plain ugly.

sprior -> RE: OT Beautiful Ships of WWII (12/2/2012 8:04:13 PM)

Can I nominate HMS Vanguard, launched 1944?

MAurelius -> RE: OT Beautiful Ships of WWII (12/2/2012 8:04:47 PM)

de gustibus non est disputandum....

but I do hope you vote for the looks - and not the history ;) - otherwise Bismarck would HAVE to win :P :P :P

PS: Vanguard would have been my 2nd choice...

JohnDillworth -> RE: OT Beautiful Ships of WWII (12/2/2012 8:05:37 PM)

I think I have brought some of my personal preferences over. I like em stacked: This is a thing of beauty to me.

How about HMS Victory, she was still in commission 39-45. She still is.

I would have loved to be able to include Vanguard - but sadly her completion in 1946 rules her out. Such a shame because she is one gorgeous ship [&o]

sprior -> RE: OT Beautiful Ships of WWII (12/2/2012 8:30:53 PM)

Vanguard refusing to go to the breaker's yard quietly:

And finally, Warspite grounded on her way to the breakers in the ironically named Prussian Cove:

Yamato class gets my vote. Something that big with clean lines and still looks like a Battleship

Are you sure thats not a picture taken after an epic WiF game in which Yamato sunk Warspite....or was it the other way around. I can't remember..........[:'(]

John 3rd -> RE: OT Beautiful Ships of WWII (12/2/2012 10:24:47 PM)

No sir! This was the thanks the Grand Old Lady got after she had won the war. The image you were thinking of was as per below:

Warspite1 sends over a deadly salvo and Yamato blows up - Hurrah [&o]. Now its off to Trincomalee for tea and medals [:)]
