I donīt want to remember how often the glug glug part happened to me in such a situation.

Seems like the probability for the flooding control diceroles to fail, close to the rescuing harbour, are in direct proportion to the hopes and expectations of the player.

Captain Jack Sparrow.

Disco Duck -> RE: Home at last! (12/6/2012 5:19:21 PM)

Since jetjocky hasn't posted a screen shot of the sub under repair I am thinking it went "glug-glug"[sm=00000030.gif]

Would like to know as well. Though with 25sys dmg only there is a small chance it reached port, but so did Captain Jack Sparrow

jetjockey -> RE: Home at last! (12/6/2012 10:58:30 PM)

Oh yea of little faith! Have patience.

I too must await the outcome. The time is now in the hands of my most worthy opponent.

Considering all of the big things going on in a campaign it is amazing how emotionally involved I get nursing a severely crippled ship home. Could be a lowly SC-does not matter...

+1

I managed to forget a sub after a mini-sub drop and it got to 90+ systems damage, and to 95 by the time i made it to a level 0 port where i then disbanded it happily. Then after a month or two of no repair happening (in spite of introduced naval support) I figured out I had to move it another few hexes to a level 1 port. I carefully did this one hex at a time, and it made it intact! Now it's actually repairing and has 121 days left, and is at 92 system damage.

An interesting saga, and I've put much more importance on this than it should have considering it's late 43 and I lose 1-2 subs a week lately on average!

DOCUP -> RE: Home at last! (12/7/2012 7:59:58 PM)

I agree with you all.  The Dev's got this completely right.  I came over from HOI3.  I felt like it was missing something.  I found it here.  It was the attachment you get to the units.  Its one thing to see blobs moving across the screen.  It's another to see names of these units, ships, pilots etc.  You get attached to them, want to follow them thru the war.  Hibikki anyone.

LoBaron -> RE: Home at last! (12/7/2012 9:15:27 PM)

Well said, DOCUP you describe exactly the reason for my emotional ties to WitP AE, where HOI3 leaves me stone cold in the same situation.

To avoid misunderstandings, I really enjoy(ed) playing HOI3, but I never had this cold sweat on forehead feeling - when revenge DCs hit a sub that just
crippled a major combatant, or a CA disappearing in a cloud of near misses. And then getting the heroes back home. It is simply unique in WitP AE.

The combination of grand scale strategy and your favourite pilot adding 2 kills to the list in a fight over the Solomons. This is what makes the difference.

LoBaron -> RE: Home at last! (12/9/2012 11:18:22 AM)

And? Did she make it? The WitP world wants to know. Tellmetellmetellme!!! [sm=innocent0001.gif]

jetjockey -> RE: Home at last! (12/9/2012 11:34:29 AM)

Still waiting. This game isn't what can be considered fast paced.

jetjockey -> RE: Home at last! (12/10/2012 11:37:09 PM)

Success! I'll repair what damage I can an then head to Truk to complete repairs (at least that is the plan).

So no glug glug ... it'll be a long road back. Get that float down to 38 and engine to 9 before moving again.[;)] I foresee Truk, then repair yards in Japan for the defiant SS-173.

John Lansford -> RE: Home at last! (12/11/2012 4:26:55 PM)

I had the Alabama take 3 torpedoes off of Truk, when the nearest useful port was PH. She began limping home with two escorts and a Floatation damage rating of 90, while I rushed two AR's to the closest port to her route I could find, Kwajalein. She got to Kwajalein with a Floatation rating of 97, and I immediately disbanded her and put the AR's to work. That ship was stuck at the atoll for months before I'd risk the trip to PH, but her crew eventually got about a year's long rest at Seattle while the ship was repaired...

jetjockey -> RE: Home at last! (12/11/2012 8:39:37 PM)

This seems odd. I've never followed repairs closely before, but is this supposed to be this way: all the flotation and engine hits (excepting major damage that is) repaired in a single day with no repairs to systems and the estimated repair time unchanged?

sanch -> RE: Home at last! (12/11/2012 9:33:01 PM)

Try playing 2-day turns, and count the number of times when ...

First turn: "pumps failing ..."
Second turn: "sinks ..."

I had something similar recently...

Thanks. Interesting.

rms1pa -> RE: Home at last! (12/12/2012 4:25:35 PM)

there is a very good thread by Alfred on repairing ships.(if i had the skills to point you to it i would)

i note the minor damage got repaired. with a priority on eng/flt.
sys damage wont sink the ship directly. so lower priority.

rms/pa

wfaherty -> RE: Home at last! (12/12/2012 8:17:12 PM)

System damage is what you need to get down on damaged ship with floatation damage as it directly relates to the pumping ability of the ship. I just had a British BB with 64 floatation damage and spent 30 days at pier side getting the system damage down before I could send it off to a drydock big enough to repair the floatation damage.

jetjockey -> RE: Home at last! (12/30/2012 3:35:42 PM)

Temporary repairs complete; setting sail for Truk and (hopefully) final repairs...

I know, I know; cruise speed was set second day out.
