there's also a "condensed manual" that is helpful, if a bit idiosyncratic.

Simon Edmonds -> RE: Updated Manual (8/19/2018 6:43:56 AM)

I was having a quiet afternoon so my thoughts turned to gaining a greater understanding of the rules manual. To do this I had a look at all the changes made in updates since the updated manual came out in v1.07.11 in 2013. I found there was a staggering 540 changes to the rules and features made since then. Is it any wonder that newcomers like myself struggle to grasp the game. I think that the priority for the next update should be to update the rules manual.

Couldn't agree more. It even causes a problem for those who have played before and have come back after a number of years.

thedoctorking -> RE: Updated Manual (8/19/2018 3:30:28 PM)

We need somebody with a pretty significant block of time to go through the existing manual and incorporate all those 540 changes. Simon Edmonds are you volunteering? You would be doing a massive favor for the rest of us.

I think that you would need a professional, paid version of Adobe or some other .pdf editor in order to edit the manual file.

I have the time. Problem is although I can convert to adobe but have no way to unlock an existing one.

thedoctorking -> RE: Updated Manual (8/22/2018 1:45:37 AM)

You can't unlock the WITE-Manual[US_letter].pdf?

Hey Moravel, can you send us an unlocked version of the manual?

morvael -> RE: Updated Manual (8/22/2018 7:44:06 AM)

I have the same file that you have. I don't know who has the source (in .doc/docx I guess).

Chris21wen -> RE: Updated Manual (8/22/2018 3:38:30 PM)

I've managed to unlock it and create a word version through an online facility.

As I do not have Word I used Open Office Writer to open it but the formatting came out so bad, it was unuseable. Probably down to two different processes I went through to get there.

Plan Z seems to have worked, well almost. This entailed using Windows Word Pad to read the Word version which it did no problem. I then tried to copy and paste the contents into Writer but Word Pad would not let me do that so I finished up copy & pasting sections, saving each section separately except for the contents pages. This would not copy and paste with acceptable results. I believe this was the cause of all the other screwed attempts.

Bottom line is I now have an acceptable Writer version which unfortunately still requires going through to correct the inevitable formatting problems this convoluted procedure caused.

Once that is done I can start the update process.

How long? Well how long's a piece of string.

If you do it you will be remembered. [&o]

Hi all,

Leo, any chance you will take the task to update this? Thanks for all your work so far, anyway!
Cheers,
Martin

I was not around for long time (but I was lurking all the time)... quite busy with RealLife (TM)...

I will try to find my last editable WinWord version and post it here...

It's not going to be a problem if you can't. I'm nearly threequarters through formatting the Open Office version so it's not taking as long as I thought. At this speed I should be done with the formatting in 2 days. Just the updates after that.

Chris21wen -> RE: Updated Manual (8/25/2018 5:31:50 PM)

Formatting done. Updates progressing

Hey Chris21, this is great news!

Maybe when you get that all set up, the hive mind here could write some sort of general guide to play to accompany the manual.

Simon Edmonds -> RE: Updated Manual (8/27/2018 2:45:23 AM)

Great to see someone has taken on the challenge of updating the manual. I wouldn't have had the game knowledge or understanding to do it properly.

I'd like to help with updating the manual, but I know my free time to write down answers is limited. Also, the intent of the designers were to keep a lot of the specifics how the game operates hidden. Please ask any questions that may arise, and I'll try to answer them, providing details if those details were already provided in the original rulebook.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Updated Manual (8/30/2018 11:22:04 AM)

@chris: If you need help witht the part on the supply system, I can contribute. I also have tables on current industry multipliers and the dependency of movement points and morale. Just PM me if you can use help.

Chris21wen -> RE: Updated Manual (8/30/2018 10:11:51 PM)

I thought it best to initially just paste the changes into the manual. E.G Like the US letter manual that comes with the last update. The only problem with that is there's been so many updates that there's a lot of red text (the udates). Advantage is it's quick and puts changes altogether.

It will need updating properly but with the updates pasted it should be relatively easy to make proper changes bearing in mind the designer original intent.

Chris21wen -> RE: Updated Manual (8/30/2018 10:12:43 PM)

I'll bear that in mind when I get to that bit.

thedoctorking -> RE: Updated Manual (9/4/2018 10:22:03 PM)

Maybe some explanations and/or examples of each element would be good following each rules section? Once the basic work is done I'd be happy to contribute some part of that.

fritzfarlig -> RE: Updated Manual (9/6/2018 3:48:57 PM)

Do you have a link please
