LehrDivision -> Graphic and Sounds (12/21/2002 9:48:31 AM)

Hi i'm new and i was wondering if there is any place to get newer or better graphic and sounds than the default ones that came with the game.

LehrDivision -> PLEASE (12/21/2002 1:14:14 PM)

Anybody? please TELL ME where to get some new sound or graphic upgrade/mod ... please... it won't hurt to help a fellow gamer :D

Goblin -> (12/21/2002 1:19:10 PM)

Panzer Leo has his H2H mod out. It has several new sounds in it for the different weapons. Most are an improvement. The mod is really great too. If you do not want to try the mod, maybe email Leo and see if he can direct you to the sound files?

First of all...welcome to the forum. (at least as a registered user) :)

Second of all, Goblin is correct (for once!) :D H2H has a bit richer sound files, and some nice alternative graphics.

Third, please don't feel ignored if you don't get a reply really quick...sometimes there are people surfing through at work and what not and they can't log on to answer....or popping in for a quick visit before they are off to do something else.

Despite that...you can almost always bet that within 24 hours a post will have a reply. We all try to help each other as best we can and that has made this forum one of the best I know...and the people here are tops in my book (even Goblin and a character named M4 Jess. lol)

Fourth...be sure to have fun and get into the mix when you feel ready! Look forward to seeing you on the field of battle!!!

PS-Lehr, I just noticed your age! You are a rarity here, and welcome for sure! Try to get some of your friends involved, the community always needs new blood!;)

There are lots of alternate graphcis that can be used. I've got gobs of them from the WAW Modern mods we were doing. The problem here is simple: You change a graphic you change the SHP files in one way or another, or you alter the reference to the SHP file via the OOB Editor (when you get deeper into it you even start rewriting the mech.exe).

This is fine if you play only AI - you will start getting mixed results from scenarios that were made with a collection of graphics that are not the same as you now have. Then, when you go to play PBEM or Hotseat - still the best way to go for many of us - your opponent is going to have to have those shp files or revised OOB files on his machine or there will be weird and unpredictable occurrences.

You can't get away from it and part of the problem is that without a lot of extra effort - making an Excel file from a .csv dump is one way - you will not know what OTHER units in the OOB are using the graphics you are changing. Sort of a chain reaction effect.

Changing the game graphics tiles is tricky business - it can be fun and rewarding, if you are going to do this I strongly recommend a totally separate additional installation of WAW, in which you can experiment without messing up the standard game files, which you are probably going to need if you have any idea of playing PBEM.

Personally, I am waiting for the release of CL.

Yes indeed. :) However, since the final touches won't be done on CL before the 2003 campaigning season opens...SPWAW is still the way to go.

LehrDivision -> Re (12/22/2002 1:04:42 PM)

Okie... guess may be changing graphics isn't that smart...

heh goblin i been into wargaming for a while since i was 12 =), actually likeing WWII history got me started. I tried to get some of my buds... but like they're in to FPS like Days of Defeat or MoH:AA i don't blame em... they are really fun but i'd say my blood is in wargaming. I been looking around the forum for a long time just never posted anything hehe...

As Bing explained, changing both the photos and the actual in-game icons is possible using the editors included with SPWAW and any graphics program (PaintShopPro, PhotoShop, etc). There are a couple tricks to the process, but the read-me files supplied with the editors do a great job of explaining them since they were written by end-users...and if you get stuck help is a 'post' away. And his suggestion of creating a separate SPWAW installation if you plan on editing is a very good idea.

Changing sounds is as easy as dropping a new .wav file into the 'snd' folder, but to find out which sound file corresponds to a vehicle/weapon/event you'll need to use the SPWAW editor. If you have an older version of SPWAW there was a 'stereo sounds patch', but I see that its no longer available on Matrix's download page...probably due to its 200mb size (the entire game file is 439mb). Before experimenting I'd recommend copying your original 'snd' folder to a safe location.
