warspite1 -> A genius passes away.... (12/26/2012 9:39:56 PM)

The Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson has died.

Thunderbirds was a large part of my childhood - absolutely brilliant!! I suspect the same goes for most boys of a certain age.

When the series became popular again in the mid-2000's my eldest little Warspite became a big fan too.

Even now I have Thunderbirds 1, 2, 3 and 4 proudly on display in my study.

RIP Gerry [&o][&o]

Yes, I was and still am a large fan of the Thunderbirds. It is a sad day.

I am sad. He brought us so much cool stuff that would have not been available
if not for those puppets. I will be proud to hoist a couple to his memory.
He had a long and fruitful career and from what I read it was time for him
to move on.

Mine included Anderson's "Captain Scarlet," and didn't he also create "Fireball XL5"?

Sigh R.I.P Gerry
Thank yoo for Fireball XL5, Supercar, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Joe 90, UFO, Space 1999 (first season).

Cheers

Jev

Thunderbirds and UFO were my 2 favorites.

UFO of course inspired the game (UFO or XCOM in the US) and the whole game series.

So we need a thunderbirds game now.
Thanks

A great talent who will be mourned.

Thought the Thunderbirds was great as a little kid. When I was a little bit older UFO and Space 1999 were the shows to watch.

That show rocked. I loved that show.

As a boy all I wanted to be was Virgil piloting Thunderbird 2. As an adult I still watch the DVD's from time to time. And I still want to be Virgil.

Requiescat in pace Gerry.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep by Mary Elizabeth Frye

from IMDb:

"Famous for his shows which employ 'Supermarionation' - marionettes with control wires connected to interior mechanisms that control facial features and other functions of the puppets. However, since this kind of puppetry makes it difficult to depict them walking realistically, his shows are usually science fiction series that emphasize the characters operating futuristic vehicles ...

"He was awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen's 2001 Birthday Honours List for his services to Animation.

"Anderson's ancestral (from the Russian-Polish border) name was Bieloglovski. This was changed to 'Abrahams' by a British immigration official in 1895. His mother, Deborah, changed it to 'Anderson' because she liked the sound of it."

I too loved Thunderbirds!

Only last month I was in a place with a few palm trees and I thought of the opening of Thunderbirds where the palm trees fold away!

Enjoyed Captain Scarlett but wasn't a fan of the other programmes. When younger I preferred Star Fleet or it was also called X Bomber I think.
