I will just post two pictures in here to show the most frequently seen units on the board.

Great idea and execution. Perhaps this should be moved to War Room and stickied.

Also: X is a brigade, III is a regiment.

X means brigade. III a regiment.

Also worth noting for newbies that you can toggle the display of the movement points (MPs)/defensive values; I really find it far more helpful to have the defensive values displayed but others may feel differently.

The colored corners on the units represent a selected level of something - you can toggle between fuel (probably the most common), morale, supply and experience. Very helpful particularly when on defense to get a sense of how much mobility your opponent has.

That is what you get for rushing things :)
Thx for the correction.

I've moved this to the warroom and stickied it as it is a helpful overview. Terje, if you'd rather me put it back in the other area, let me know. Thanks.

That's actually an Anti-Tank gun brigade. I don't know how much people build them, but their utility is mainly to force Zone of Control costs on panzer breakthroughs.

This is what the on map AA unit looks like:

Hehe as stated before, this is what you get for doing things quickly instead of properly [:)]
And I should have seen that. Issue arose because I redecided which area to take a screenie of.
Nice catch.

Thanks Terje439 for useful thread. Please others keep in mind that a new player needs to learn things in a reasonable build sequence. Terje439 started about right (for me once.)

As a newcomer I had trouble understsanding rail building (how, where, when) and forts, etc. Not so much now, but maybe others (as I have trouble just posting) might help the new player.

Might also benefit others through an intermediate/advanced level thread, like reading and using the commanders' reports, but I dream.

gamer78 -> RE: Units, what, why? An aid for new players. (1/4/2013 1:25:29 AM)

This is very helpfull , thanks for writing. [:)] Especially mountain troops and soviet anti-tank guns is good knowledge.
As rrbill have mentioned those topics would also be helpfull.
And additionally my question is does sec divisions and other divisions lose trucks when far from command&corps hq? Supposedly they are on converted rail full of supply.

demyansk -> RE: Units, what, why? An aid for new players. (1/6/2013 1:41:22 PM)

I liked this post, do you know of a thread that would show an attack in similar fashion?

terje439 -> RE: Units, what, why? An aid for new players. (1/6/2013 2:00:52 PM)

What kind of attack are you wondering about?
1. Just a normal hasty attack
2. A deliberate attack
3. Attacking a frontlint (finding out where to attack etc)
4. Making pockets
