Canuck_jp -> How to read the counters? (12/30/2012 1:53:45 AM)

I couldn't find anything about this in the manual. I'm having trouble digesting all the numbers on the chits. I think I've managed to figure some of them out by comparing with the unit stats panel.
Bottom left is soft and hard attack, bottom right is regular and flank defense, top right is...movement? Not sure what the top left is. Same with the number above the Iron Cross or the Soviet star in the bottom middle part. Sometimes I see a unit with a purple line across the middle of the unit counter. What does that mean?

Some of this is in the wiki. This app is for the board game and can be viewed in a browser

on that page click the link below

and then chit reference

Note that range is not shown in the PC chits nor is direct/indirect but they are shown in the UI as #(#)

I had this screen capture saved; it's from the board game rule book. It might also help.

I believe that the purple stripe means that the unit has been used.

A mortar or MG will have the AP cost to fire in the board game as, for example, 2(3) which is 2 for direct and 3 for indirect. If there is a range, 3-14 in the board game and for 3 minimum hexes and 14 maximum hexes. The PC game cannot show the 2 numbers on the onboard chits for some reason. The PC game UI will show the 2 numbers.

Regarding mortars, I believe their spotters are 2 hexes in front of the unit in the direction it's facing. So you can place the mortar out of sight of enemies and still do indirect fire in the area visible to the spotters. I wasn't aware of this initally, and its' quite useful to know.

Good stuff guys. Just to jump back in here:

1. The purple stripe on the chit graphics does mean the unit is "spent" (has been used as J2D said). There is no stat changes from it's "fresh" or unused side.

2. The screen capture below has a mortar chit as it looks in the board game with explanations for the numbers, which are as J2D stated.

3. According to a post in the tech forum, Eric said the chits were extremely difficult to render at the level of quality to match what's seen in the board game so a decision was made to leave off the minimum firing range. I think it was just a case of not having enough money to get to it. Maybe in a future patch or the Storms of Steel sequel.

4. PKH if you change that two hexes in front to two hexes anywhere you have it correct. Mortars can only fire in their front firing arcs (where direct or indirect) but their spotters can be anywhere within two hexes of them. The screen capture below has the exact rule. In my opinion a very elegant abstractions for what could have been an overly complicated rule.
