CT Grognard -> bizarre message in Op Report (1/14/2013 6:57:50 PM)

I saw these very strange two lines in the Operational Report for Dec 12, 41:

PO2 Nishikaichi, S. of Hiryu-1 attempts escape at 177,106
PO2 Nishikaichi, S. of Hiryu-1 is KILLED!!

This was quite bizarre, this pilot was part of my Pearl Harbor strike on 7 December and was listed as MIA?

Can anyone explain this?

Cpt Sherwood -> RE: bizarre message in Op Report (1/14/2013 7:00:33 PM)

He was MIA on the 7th, captured on unknown date, and was killed when he tried to escape on the 12th?

See niihau incident

Wow! Such a nice little detail.

I just can't get over how complex and realistic this game is!

Wow I learn something new every day! I knew nothing about this incident. But it sure does help to explain (to some extent) the over reaction of the US to Japanese American citizens. Thanks for sharing this, very informative. Hal

JeffroK -> RE: bizarre message in Op Report (1/15/2013 12:58:45 AM)

Coward, should be ashamed of himself not dying for his Emperor!

Disco Duck -> RE: bizarre message in Op Report (1/15/2013 1:58:20 AM)

He did. Read Cpt Sherwood's post. A very interesting point of History that I did not know.

Not talking about real life, is CT Grognard turning Knavey or is this a really amazing coincidence??

Chickenboy -> RE: bizarre message in Op Report (1/15/2013 1:04:40 PM)

Yes, I see where you're going with that JeffK. The link was very interesting (I hadn't heard of it before), but I think I smell a...Knavey-ism here. [;)]

ETA: Whoops-in keeping with the spirit, I'll channel a Tom Label.

@ CT Grognard: THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME, I SWEAR!!!! [:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]

One of the more interesting messages (but depressing) that I received once was "damage control crew trapped in flooded compartment." As the sub in question sank the next day I wonder if losing its damage control crew gave it a negative modifier on the next die roll?

The "die roll"? Yeah. Exactly.

CT Grognard -> RE: bizarre message in Op Report (1/16/2013 5:18:56 AM)

I'll fess up, it was an unashamed tribute to Knavey. [:D]

I've also seen that, especially on the Japanese side, and from my experience essentially means your Flooding damage has just jumped up by at least 20 points.

This story would make a good movie.

On a sub, the whole crew is the damage control crew. Skimmers have designated damage control people, mostly hull technicians.

Interesting crop of that report - the title comes out "Japanese Opera" [:D]
I'm not sure what kind of song escaping pilots [or their pursuers] sing!

bradfordkay -> RE: bizarre message in Op Report (1/27/2013 5:11:22 PM)

Obviously, the escaping pilot is singing "Freebird"!

In theory - but Hollywood would surely turn in to a sequel of the movie that should not be named...
