Marvin Pontiac -> Neighbors (1/22/2013 9:41:39 PM)

Hi,

One of my neighbors asked me for a free trade agreement which I accepted. After that I gave 'm a bit of money on advise of the AI. Then they gave me quite a bit of money and everything was very nice. All of a sudden they stopped the trade agreement and a bit later put a trade embargo on me. I got no warnings from them. Then they lifted the embargo. Then it was back again. Then they declared war. Nice! Apparently my empire was invading too much on there systems but the only thing I see happening is that exploration ships go into their systems and that in some cases mining stations have been build. There is also a colony that sits against their territory so to speak but that was already there before they offered the first trade agreement.

My question: Can the building of mining station and/or exploration ships anger your neighbors? And if so what can you do about it? My civilians happily venture into my neighbors territory it seems.

If you look at them in diplomacy you will see the things influencing their opinion of you. Often empires "covet your colonies..." for a huge negative.

You can not build mining bases in the territory of others without mining rights (from diplomacy). However, former "black" areas may become owned by others due to colonization or the growth of influence circles as colonies become richer. Before colonization is done new colonies mess things up. After a while rich colonies may move the border to include either former enemy systems, or systems that was well clear of the influence circle when the mine was built.

Edit: Oh, and the AI really hates trespassing (with mines and stations).

So is there anything you can do about mines that where build in black areas and then became part of the influence circle of a neighbors colony because it grew? Can you dismantle the mine? would that help? Maybe I should just try it out :-)

KAHUNA -> RE: Neighbors (1/22/2013 11:27:52 PM)

You might be able to sell it to your neighbors,or colonise planets close to it but still in your influence range and eventually retake that area again.As Bingeling was saying you may be able to negotiate mining rights there as well.

Yes, any mines, resorts or research facilities built in their "territory" can cause friction. Note that the opposing faction does not to have anything built in a given system for them to consider it "theirs". Any star that is highlighted in another faction's colour, is considered under their influence. Building there is intruding on their territory.

One of the other things is that the race is reckless and aggressive, or some combination of traits that makes that response possible.
I have a race of bugs that are just downright untrustable.
That is one of the beauties of DW... races have traits.

KAHUNA -> RE: Neighbors (1/23/2013 1:08:20 AM)

My mines are extremely well armed and ready for a fight so I usually ignore alot of the bluster I get from my neighbors.I don't push a fight with them but I'l not walk away from one either[:)] It's a wargame after all[;)]

thiosk2 -> RE: Neighbors (1/23/2013 1:25:16 AM)

I typically declare war on anyone that so much as sends an exploration vessel in my space.

I HATE intrusion.

Marvin Pontiac -> RE: Neighbors (1/23/2013 1:47:13 AM)

I didn't know you could sell mining stations, can you do that via diplomacy or something. I've started a new game and again there is a friendly neighbor. Only this time I'm keeping my construction ships away from what is probably their territory. Sjeez it's 1:45 AM here now I should go to bed.

Bingeling -> RE: Neighbors (1/23/2013 10:52:31 AM)

If you negotiate a trade proposal, contested bases are options which can be of great value. Empires that don't like you don't offer a lot of other fancy stuff, though (like research).
