Has anyone realized a historical Enterprise, in the sense of fighting in many battles and later joining the Essex Carriers through the end of the game?? Every one of my games has seen the Enterprise go down to sub torpedo or sank in her first engagement.

In my first game she had made it to Mid 1942.

Hit by dive bombers twice already, once by Midway (part of a force that sank 2 carriers) and once near Baker Island. (which she is currently in dry dock for).

The Baker Island was in support of a small scale counter attack, which retook the island. No Japanese carriers got hit badly (they did show up), but a sub did put 4 torps (yay duds) into Zuikaku. Oh for one of those to have detonated.

Now mid-1942 is a long way to go still, but the highest risk time is over.

I have! Only against AI, though she's been hit by bombs from Vals on 3 or so. On the worst occasion, I saw 10 bomb hits but they must have all been really minor (and Vals carry wussy bomb loads), as next day she only had 27 Sys, 10 (3) Flt, and 14 (4) Eng. That, or the real life damage control crews were being realistically simulated ;). Same game, I had Lex sink to fires from a torpedo hit...frustratingly realistic on that one.

My present PBEM is into March, 1944 and she just swallowed two torpedoes in another carrier battle but she's is going to survive. I think that this is the fifth carrier battle we have had so far. I have lost the Yorktown and Hornet, but that's it for my USC fleet carriers. All of them have been hit a least once (well, maybe not the Wasp), but my damage control has managed to keep them afloat.

I only play the AI, so it's a bit different environment from playing PBEM, but I've had the Enterprise survive on many occasions. She even fought a battle of Midway type battle around Rabaul one time.

The three Yorktowns happened to be crossing the Coral Sea on their way to the DEI when a large Japanese force including most of the KB came down from Truk. All three Yorktowns were diverted to just south of Rabaul and weather was on my side. The first two days of the battle the weather south of Rabaul was too poor for much in the way of carrier ops and Rabaul took a heavy beating, but I had several air groups their. They didn't do much damage to the KB, but chewed up the Zeros to some extent and the KB expended a lot of air missions against Rabaul. Because of the bad weather the Japanese couldn't get a strike to find the US carriers.

On the third day, the weather cleared and the USN found the KB first. I think the Shokaku was badly damaged, but the Hiryu, Soryu, and Kaga were sunk (the Akagi had been lost to LBA a couple of months before). The Hornet was badly damaged by torpedoes and had to sit at Rabaul for a while until it was safe to move and then had a very slow 3 knot voyage back to the US. The Yorktown and Enterprise got through it with little damage and eventually joined the Essexes. Rabaul was a mess for a while and I had to completely rebuild some LBA air units that were essentially gutted.

It was some of the most exciting three turns I've ever played of the game.

Playing IJ against Andy AI, there are two ships that I target: Boise and Big E.  I figure if I get them, the war is won.  [:D]
