Kobracan -> Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (3/15/2013 4:59:27 AM)

I have a problem with AI's ship construction suggestions. I generally like it. However, when my cashflow is negative AI still suggests ship building. The problem is the "Purchase" button is grayed out (because of negative cashflow) so all you can do is to cancel it. Completely pointless. The AI should not suggest ship building if you're cashflow negative or if it will then the Purchase button shouldn't be grayed out.

Another suggestion I would make about AI attack suggestions is when I select one attack to be carried out, it would be very nice if the AI's other suggestions about carrying an attack with the same fleet would be cleared so we don't have to manually clear them. Same thing about intelligence missions etc.

Oh another related suggestion is right click should clear AI suggestions without opening. Currently, both left and right click open the suggestion. Sometimes I just want to clear the suggestion without opening it.

I have to agree, that this behavior is annoying.

But even more so, the purchase is blank based entirely on cash flow. Yet in a recent game my cash flow was only -10K and I had 3-4 Million on hand.

I just started a Shadows game and I am sad to see the that this bug still exists in Shadows. It is something so small to fix yet I see this bug every game 100s of times.

Please fix this.

This may be happening if your cash changed right after the suggestion. The AI may suggest and by the time you click, there's no longer enough cash to actually build with.

Cashflow alone is not the determinant of whether you can build as with bonus income and cash in hand there can still be reasons to build with negative stable cashflow, especially if at war.

Kobracan -> RE: Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (5/23/2013 11:52:23 PM)

Erik,

This may or may not be the case (a true bug or not) but what I know is there should definitely a behavior change here. I get this advisor popup like 100 times during the game and every time the Purchase button is grayed out and the order amounts suggested by the advisor are all zero.

So either there is a bug or that suggestion needs to be handled differently (or go away immediately on its own if it's not possible to purchase anymore).

Here's the last popup I got:

Advisor suggests: Build new ships for 6902 credits

I have:

15499 credits
-572 cashflow
0 bonus income

In the build screen opened when I click the advisor popup:

Advisor suggest: a grand total of 0 ships
Purchase button grayed out.

Understood - could you upload a save file for that issue please? We did see something like this in testing as well but were hoping we fixed it (where there is still enough cash to build but zero ships are in the list).

Kobracan -> RE: Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (5/24/2013 12:56:35 AM)

The uploaded file name is AdvisorPopupNegativeCashflow.dwg

I tried to save at the moment where I got the popup but BEFORE I clicked it so you can click and see hopefully.

By the way, this should be EXTREMELY easy to reproduce on your side too. This happens to me every game tens of times when I have negative cashflow.

Castinar -> RE: Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (5/24/2013 2:12:30 AM)

I'll say that I just started a Pirate game, and have this issue...it isn't sudden loss of cash either....the suggestions are for 34K when I have a 9.3K + 2.4K cashflow. It did not happen with my empire shadows game either.

After playing this pirate faction a short while, I'm beginning to suspect that the ship suggestions are actually for civilian ships....which don't show up on the ship purchase screen.

I say this, because a few times I've had the popup both before and after I purchased a couple freighters....and each time it seems the amount suggested after the purchase was much smaller than before the purchase....and by a very similar amount to the purchased ships.

Wolfe1759 -> RE: Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (5/24/2013 11:32:47 PM)

Playing the pre warp tutorial I have had multiple instances in only a short playing time of suggestions to buy ships for 0 credits, when you click through to the build screen no ships are recommended (all columns are 0), the purchase button is greyed out and all you can do is cancel.

towerbooks3192 -> RE: Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (5/27/2013 4:06:08 AM)

I could confirm this one as well.

It is understandable if its only a couple of hundreds or thousands difference but there are times when it requests for around 10k more than your current cash and when you open it the requested amount is something like 1k-5k but most of the time its zero. It happened to each of my Shadows saves so far

necaradan666 -> RE: Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (5/27/2013 4:24:03 AM)

This is because it wants you to buy the earliest default ships from the normal game, but in the age of shadows you can't build even those for a while

Speeder -> RE: Ship Construction Suggestion During Negative Cashflow (5/27/2013 4:38:47 AM)

I see this A LOT, and since I remember...

I think since Shakturi I was seeing this behavior, although now it is much worse...

The last game I finished, I had 30 million credits, and -50k of cashflow, the AI would suggest me to make purchases that cost 500k credits, but when I clicked on the advisor it was all zero...

Sometimes it happens with positive cashflow too, I think when the ships it want to build need more maintenance than you have of cashflow (example, you have 2k of cashflow, but it want to build a very big capital ship that needs 2.8k in maintenance... when you click the advisor, it shows as zero)
