Please post your system specs and your shortcut extensions.

Okay, next thing to do is go to your AE shortcut on your desktop, right-click on it, and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.

What does the "destination" line look like?

lorman -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 4:56:41 PM)

compatibility XP service pack 3, disable DPI on, execute as ADMIN

lorman -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 4:57:51 PM)

\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\autorun.exe" here is destination line

Terminus -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 5:35:55 PM)

Okay, you should really not have to run it in compatibility mode with that machine. But you also don't want to be starting it from the game menu.

Remove your current AE shortcut. Go into your AE folder and locate the AE .exe file. Then right-click on it, and select "Send to Desktop". This will create a new and better shortcut.

Then right-click on the new one, and select Preferences again. We're going to mess with the Destination line.

While you're in your AE folder, open the PDF file "Whatsnew". It contains a list of performance switches for the Destination line, as well as instructions on how to enter them correctly.

Terminus -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 5:42:39 PM)

The main one you want is -dd_sw which should hugely improve the lag. Add it to your destination line after the quote mark with one space in between, like you see in the whatsnew file.

lorman -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 5:45:23 PM)

cant exactly find out the AE exe file, could it be named in other way ?

Terminus -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 5:47:16 PM)

War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe.

lorman -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 6:13:05 PM)

Ok sent to desktop : what exactly do we have to change now?[:)]

Terminus -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 6:41:46 PM)

Open the shortcut, like you did with the other one and select preferences, then add the switch like I instruct above. And look in the whatsnew.pdf.

lorman -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 10:09:36 PM)

So i did add -dd_sw to the destination line, should i retain the XP pack service an disable pdi as before or it is enough ?

Terminus -> RE: win8 (3/17/2013 11:19:12 PM)

Like I said, you shouldn't have to run this game in compatibility mode. -dd_sw solves a lot of slowness problems. Start with it.

wdolson -> RE: win8 (3/18/2013 1:17:21 AM)

You might have to add -cpu1 too. That will often solve slowness problems the other switch doesn't on its own. The slowness comes from a bug in DirectX that combines with some hardware and some drivers. There are several combinations that cause the problem so it usually takes some experimentation to get it to work.

BTW, you also need to have at least the first patch installed. I recommend installing at least the latest official patch and then upgrading to the current beta would be good too. But these switches work with anything first patch and later.

lorman -> RE: win8 (3/18/2013 4:40:59 PM)

adding dd sw enabled only a little improvement in the speed of the game, trying with cpu1 now. Thank for all the help[&o]. Patch installed yet.

lorman -> RE: win8 (3/18/2013 4:51:28 PM)

no further improvement with cpu 1 on....[:(]
