I'm using the newest beta.

I understand the naval ai in this game is really bad (as in most wargames) but I just ran a test game and clicked end turn for about 30 mins and didnt see the ai build a single navy unit besides cargo ships. It didnt transport any units to my island with those cargo ships though

Seeing that I am on an island this seems really game breaking (in terms of maps with oceans anyways). There were 3 Ai's and not one thought the ocean was important.

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or just bad AI but I swear I could remember the AI building a decent navy in older versions

Just read your post, and you're absolutely right. The AI in AT in older versions *did* build navies, sometimes powerful too. Don't know what happened in later patches as the AI sure tends to neglect the naval aspect of the game.

Try Lancer's Enhanced AI Mod (Maritime). The AI probably isn't much better at invasions but on maps with at least 50% oceans (assuming the AI has some port cities), control of the seas will not be a cake walk.

I assume its to much to just ask that the dev fix the problem?
Or has it been fixed?

I think Vic has promised that the beta AI will be "fixed" before official release. But that might be for the "AI not building aircraft" part that was broke.
