Colony Tax Rates: automate Colony Population Policies: automate Ship Design: automate & manual Troop Recruitment: automate Fleet Formation: manual Research: manual Character Locations: manual Colonization: manual Ship Building: manual Intelligence Missions: manual Attacks Against Enemies: manual Sending Diplomatic Gifts: manual Treaties: manual War and Trade Sanctions: manual Colony Facility Building: manual Constructor Ships: automated Explorers: Automated Comments / Explanation: I automated the colony tax rates and population policies because I didn't want to have to monitor each colony's population and adjust the settings. Since I was just starting I didn't fully understand the ramifications of the population policy settings. I automated the ship design, but I did create some addition designs. I automated constructor ships because I never really needed to pay attention to mining resources. I automated exploration because I found it too tedious but that caused other problems. It made me feel kind of detached from finding colonies and other things in the galaxy. Periodically checking the colonizable planet list didn't feel as exciting as discovering things myself. Would me nice if you could configure the game to put up a message when a colonizable planet, research location, etc was found. I don't like watching games play themselves so I tried to control as much as possible. The attack alerts became overbearing, especially with the whack a mole pirates that keep reappearing. I felt I needed to check in on each combat when I was attacked to make sure my ships were victorious. That started to get overwhelming as it was happening constantly.
