r6kunz -> Korea 2013? (4/3/2013 10:32:30 PM)

Anyone working on a Korea 2013?

I just started Piero Falotti's Korea 2005, which is probably a good approximation. It is quite detailed and as they say, the devil is in the detail. In this case, there is a lot of detail! Meaning guerrilla, special forces, AAA, air, naval, marines, sea transport, etc. This makes for a lot of micromanagement, and on the small map a very dense concentration of units- over 2000 for the ROK/US.

A bit overwhelming at first, but I am starting to get it sorted out. Hopefully I can do so soon, since my DPRNK counterpart is starting to roll- Day 6. His long range missiles are taking a toll on my air units. Do the Patriot-2 ADA missiles have a defensive value vs medium/long range missiles?

Has anyone had a look at Piero's scenario?
cheers

Ive always liked the look of this scenario but like you say its well crowded so have never got very far into it who knows one day.As for the Patriot missiles i take it there better than the ones used in the first gulf war?

Piero's scenario is a total monster which is difficult to play, let alone mod. I think Erik Rutins's "Korea 99" in the Classic TOAW section of the TOAW III scenarios would be a much better candidate for modding. I've played a few turns of it as US/ROK against north Korean computer and it moves along fairly nicely.

As far as Patriot capabilities, I would assume they have been improving over time. Look how well the Iron Dome system is working for the Isaelis to get some idea.

Moriturus
Thanks for the tip re Korea 99. I will take a look at it. I contacted Piero, and he says he is thinking about a mod to his Korea 2005. I have gotten about half way through modding to full divisions rather than regiments, making it a 30-day scenario, which eliminates a lot of coalition reinforcements.

Re the Patriot, do they actual have a TOAW value vs SCUDS??- when I have time I will try a sandtable exercise.

cheers

Erik Rutins's scenario is already division-level, which could make your task easier. As far as changing the timeline to eliminate coalition reinforcements, you can always just remove the events. 30 days is about right though, because it is difficult to see how the North Krean economy could sustain a full-scale war for much longer.

I don't know of any Patriot v. SCUD values (or Iron Dome v. SCUD values) in TOAW. I think you'll just have to sand-table it, unles there's something in one of the alternate/supplemental unit lists some people have come up with.

Good luck; I would be trying to do this myself if I had the time and energy.
