Empty units in unitstructure.txt? (Full Version)

what is the deal with those empty units? for example:

SS.Pz.Gr.Rgt 4 / 2.SS Panzer Division 23 1

Both of those unit classes don't have any units:

Its very confusing for me as I don't understand why are they there if they don't even show up in game. Help?

These are present so that the 'parent unit' shows up on the battle group screen. You'll see these units as a header entry in the list of support units, for example. Something like this:

[II./SS-PzGr Rgt 4]
8.(s.) Kompanie
(... list of teams ...)
[III./SS-PzGr Rgt 4]
12.(s.) Kompanie
(... more teams...)
[SS-PzGr Rgt 4]
13.(sIG) Kompanie
(... teams...)
15.(Pio.) Kompanie
(... teams ...)

Thanks for responding Steve but it doesn't appear like that on mine, check the pic attached.

Do you know what may be the cause?

Hi Kanov,

You are correct. I had to go back and review some old bug reports to verify why those were not showing up.

The original intention of the empty unit structures was as I described. But I made a change during the beta to not show empty unit structures because feedback indicated it was a bit confusing -- for example, if you allocated all the tanks out of a tank platoon, the header for that platoon would be in the list, but it would be empty, and people wondered why they were seeing an empty platoon. This also removed the display of the 'header' entries in FPools.txt for any unit structure that has no subordinate units or teams.

So there is no effect of those empty units at present. Probably this will not change.

i found that those empty slots made it easier for me to just add whatever types of units i wanted, without having to delete and change around too many units to make it look right, then i could just have all new customized teams for example instead of having somthing like ((s.) Kompanie) being nothing but machine-guns or mortars, if that line was an empty slot then i could customize it any which way i wanted.
