sullafelix -> new, shakedown virus scam (4/28/2013 1:34:06 AM)

I received a call from a phone # that my phone would not show.

It was from a person who said he was from Microtech and his company worked with Microsoft and there was a problem with my computer and he had to have me go to it and he could show me the problem.

I played along for a little bit and then got tired of it and went to eat.

The gist is, I guess this is a relatively new scam so be on the lookout. it won't work with someone computer savvy but if they call when you are not home or someone in your family it will be costly.

They have you look at various screens in " manage my computer " that will have errors in it so you either pay them to fix it or they actually have you let them hook up to your computer and they steal your info.

I had never heard of it before and the posts about it I saw were from 2013 so I thought I would pass it on.

Yeah, it's been going on for about a year now. They get your phone number online, call you up, and if you don't let them take over your computer, they get really pissed off...[:D]

That sort of thing has been happening in the UK for ages now.

Termi and Jason are right, this has been going on over here for quite some time now, at least a couple of years. Doesn't work with computer savvy people yet, but as usual they (the scammers calling from who knows where..India?) are aiming at the weaker targets... elderly folks, kids maybe.
I always tell my mom.. if you don't trust it put down the phone, and the bank *never ever* calls you for some information. Put down the phone, if it's important they will send you a letter. [:D]

Actually it's more fun to get a fog horn and blow it in the mouthpiece of your phone. They won't ever call back again. [:'(]

I've had a couple of calls from them saying they had noticed several crashes on my computer and I seemed to have a virus problem.First time told them I wasn't on the internet and second time that I hadn't got a computer,so far I've not had a third call.
