afonzie -> can carriers be set to ignore (1/4/2003 11:05:17 PM)

my recon spotted 3 enemy CV in the area. The next day the commander did send a large attack group against a BB group when he should have known that 3 carriers was near and waited for them to be spotted again. Now the enemy attacked me several times and did find me 3 times but never hit a ship. My attack of 17 unescorted samurai torpedoplanes where shot to pieces but an other attack did hit wasp;)) should the commander have every plane redy for attacking the CV's?? and ignore som BB

The local commander in UV, as in reality, operates at a higher resolution and a shorter decision cycle than the higher HQ. Once recon reports another Carrier TF, he is aware that they are in the area. However, naval search assets have to successfully continue to find and track the carriers to provide good enough data to launch a strike.

Some commanders may launch on less than perfect data and you'll see strikes that can't find their targets. Others will decide to launch at a target that they do have current information on and that is also a threat, rather than sending planes off on a wild goose chase.

Of course, if your enemy has good intelligence on your carriers and you have poor intelligence on his, this can lead to unfortunate results for you. Keeping up good naval search coverage can be crucial to winning carrier battles.

Regards,

- Erik

ok but what I meant can't they wait for the recon to search for the carriers they know are in the area instead of launching attacks againts transports. they should remember the carriers from the yesterday recon
