BlackRain -> Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/25/2013 3:14:15 AM)

I am playing Age of shadows, pirate faction. Whenever I build a medium or large freighter it gets built, has no fuel and just sits there. Small freighters seem to work okay. Also, I accept smuggler missions but none of my freighters ever do the mission. What am I doing wrong exactly>>>

Hi Blackrain,

How long have you been waiting for the freighters to move? Do you have a good supply of fuel at the place they were built? Do you have a source for the resources that you are trying to smuggle?

Regards,

- Erik

BlackRain -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/25/2013 3:34:00 AM)

Of course. I have lots of resources and plenty of fuel. I built a medium freighter and it started with 0 fuel and just sits there, i built two small freighters right after it and they had fuel and went about their business. They didn't take any of the missions though. Have multiple sources for all goods to smuggle. One freighter was sitting there for more than 30 minutes definitely.

That doesn't sound right - could you upload a save file please?

I can confirm a similar thing-affects all ships, both present and newly built. It's like the AI starts out 'off' and keeps 'turning off'. With normal ships(like exploration ships), this isn't a problem-just turn automation off and on again. For freighters, this can't be done. WHich is a deathblow to pirate effectiveness.

Lonck -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/25/2013 10:39:05 AM)

I have the same problem. Mining ships, freighters and exploration ships just sit there. They moved in one of my games (third new game I started) but haven't moved since.

I have noticed this too in every game so far as a pirate.

It affects manually constructed civilian ships. They get built, then undock then just sit there with 0 fuel. If you save and reload the game it seems to wake them up, they immediately grab fuel and then wait for a mission as normal (ie they do nothnig if there is no work, but they do pick up jobs again as normal).

Unfortunately this has led to me save+reloading the game every 15 minutes or so, very annoying.

Raap -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/25/2013 2:05:54 PM)

Yah, saving and reloading fixes it.

I'm not sure why you guys are having this problem to such an extent though. With me it happened with just one or two batches of ships, and after saving/reloading at that time everything returned to normal. All newly built civilian ships get fuel and work fine.

For those of you having a significant problem with this - are you running 1.9.0.0 or 1.9.0.1? What processor does your computer have?

BlackRain -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/25/2013 3:03:38 PM)

I was using the original version, I haven't tried the new version yet.

My processor is i7 - 3930K 12 cpus overclocked to 4.7ghz

Erik Rutins -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/25/2013 3:05:29 PM)

Thanks. I believe the most likely cause has to do with the threads in the game somehow getting locked. For the time being, if saving and reloading helps, I would recommend keeping autosave on at 10 minute intervals while we investigate and fix.

BlackRain -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/25/2013 4:08:33 PM)

Yeah, I just confirmed it is still happening in the newest version. I had a freighter from when I started the game, one was smuggling the other was just sitting there. I played for 20 minutes, still nothing. I saved and then reloaded my game and after a few minutes, the freighter started taking on a mission.

Southern_Aristocrat -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/26/2013 8:45:33 PM)

I've been playing the game for 30 minutes. Exploration ships stopped working after 15 minutes. They, and the new ones I built since won't automate no matter what, on quit and save game reload, or triggering automation on and off.

Tyrador -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/26/2013 9:20:57 PM)

Same here, no matter what i do these damn freighters do not work! The game is unplayable, hope it will be fixed soon.

Raap -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/26/2013 9:27:46 PM)

You should be a bit more specific. The original problem was about new freighters being built without any fuel, and refusing to refuel, but which is( until an official patch) fixed by saving/reloading the game.

Do your ships have fuel? Is it affecting both freighters( and all types of freighters?) and exploration ships? Saving/reloading doesn't work? If it's regarding fueled exploration ships, are there unexplored destinations inside half the range of their fuel limit( they need to get back)? If freighters aren't moving and have fuel, are you certain there's actually any work for them? In a pre-warp start they'll usually have very little to do until you get some mines up and going. Upload a save game if you're certain there's a problem.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/26/2013 10:35:04 PM)

Agreed - there can be many causes, by design, why a freighter does not move. The only one I've seen reported that is definitely a bug is one where all other causes have been ruled out. We need a save file to explore each case and make sure there is a real issue rather than just a misunderstanding.

Bloodly -> RE: Shadows, freighter ships doing nothing (5/28/2013 5:29:04 PM)

Still present. Shouldn't be having to save+load to get things moving. Again, not just freighters-all automation. The nature of the issue(Save+Load 'fixing it') means a save file wouldn't be helpful.
