OzoneGrif_slith -> Can't deploy resupply ship if ennemies are in the system (5/25/2013 3:22:30 PM)

Hi,

I'm playing as a pirate.

I try to deploy a resupply ship in en enemy system, or in a system with space monsters. The resupply ship will move to the planet, deploy for less than one second, then starts to undeploy immediatly and attack an ennemy target in the system.

I tried to change its stance to "Attack only if attacked", but as soon as the ship has "[no mission]", its stance returns to "Attack system targets".

I tried to switch everything to manual mode "Expert mode [manual]", but it didn't fix the problem.

I had the same type of issue but with a Constructor. I needed to build a mine near an independent colony I was trying to control. Of course, indie colonies attract all pirates more than honey attracts flies. And so, my Constructor was constantly fleeing. And then I instructed it again, and fleeing again, and again, and again. I think you can override these kinds of behaviors by clicking the resupply ships' design (or any other design - including my Constructor's case) and set "Flee when" to Never or to "when shields < 20%" and hit save (this saves the behavior for all ships of that type. I haven't tested it, but I think this may work.

Try also "Weak opponents" and "Stronger opponents" to "Evade" or "Standoff".

Hi, thank you for your answer. Sadly it's no help...

The ship's not fleeing. It's attacking.

Yes, I did realize that after writing most of the post. In your case, try to play with the "Weak opponents" and "Strong Opponents" options on the resupply design (don't forget to hit save). Try "Evade". But, I'm not sure if it will work. If not, it's another case where a "don't engage" stance would be very useful.

Setting the 'default engagement stance' (under options menu, then one of the submenu buttons...) for no mission to 'engage only if attacked' should solve the initial problem with the resupply ship.

Note however that it is an empire wide setting that will apply to all (state) ships.

feelotraveller, thank you!

In Empire Settings, changing the "Other" choice to "No default stance" works around the problem. It's a subtle option. :)
I will use this trick from now on, but I still think something's wrong in the ships' behaviour.

When the resupply ship is deploying (during the countdown), it will attack potential targets, cancel the countdown and undeploy (it shouldn't). Once completely deployed, it won't attack anything; even if I change the ship's stance to "Engage system targets" (this is correct).

The problem is during that deployment countdown.
