But surely thats not 1 mine per 50 meter hex, other wize the chance of hitting them would be tinny! It seems 50/50 with one mine. So if 50 meter hex , to get 100% would mean , something like two rows of mines staggered so theres a mine every 1-2 meters.
Alex Buchners German Infantry Hand book reports that each Infantry Division 'carried > 2000 mines'. If in any 'entrenched position' they deployed 1/3 of this stock thats ~ 700 mines over 9 battalions in two lines of defence. If each Battalion occupies a 2-3 km front thats 78 mines per Battalion and 39-26 mines per KM.
With that density you could put two mine barriers that completely cross the map.
I did this once in SP-2 defending S Korea campaign and crucified the N K attack.
Playing in a WWII campaign in WaW, I had a defend scenario that was Germans defending against Brits in 44. I knew the Brits didn't buy massive air like the Americans so I decided to splurge my support points into as many mine points as the game would allow me to buy, I had a minefield 8 rows wide with a row of dragons teeth to stop vehicles backing it up. Aside from a a very few lucky infantry units, the AI never got close enough to shoot at my troops. It finally broke from all the vehicles that died reconning the mines.
thanks, John.
