Dotdotdot -> Distant Worlds Shadows: Fun Surprises (5/26/2013 7:39:13 PM)

Hello world. I've been playing my first game of Shadows. I have to say it's been an interesting run so far. The new pirate factions definitely make logistical considerations much more important.

But y'know what makes them even more fun? Well, let me tell you!

So I was chilling in my system being a Pre-Warp civ and all, getting a call from pirates maybe once or twice a year. I had a huge fleet of 70 STL ships and recently retrofitted by main fleet of 15 ships with Warp Bubbles. One pirate empire was becoming increasingly obnoxious and consistently raided one of my home system colonies, so I decided to position my shiny refurbished FTL fleet around that world.

Just as the fleet dropped out of warp, a size 1017 pirate capital ship dropped on top of the flagship carrying my admiral.

Needless to say it was complete slaughter. BUT IT GETS BETTER!!!

A few months pass, and I get a visit from another pirate empire, with their own slightly smaller capital ship, somewhere around size 900!

There's also another pirate empire out there with two relic capital ships and a fleet of 96+ ships...

FML, this is going be fun.

I'm waiting for the stories of players that play until late game to see what other empires fleets are like :)
