Speeder -> Need sugestion on how to steup a game (5/26/2013 9:46:37 PM)

I want play a game where I can focus in making custom ships for me, and winning the game using them...

Without bothering to manage much else.

But the few times I tried to do that, I still ended having to manage lots of fleets and whatnot...

So, how I do it? Anyone here has some settings sugestion?

Do you want to also determine who is in a fleet and where and when it attacks or not?

Did you already try automating everything except Ship Design?

Regards,

Erik I mean that I end needing to manage fleets, is that the AI fleet behavior is usually terrible, and I need to override it myself... And this is quite time consuming.

So I wanted a game with less fleets overall, and where a single ship, or a single fleet is much more important.

you can mod maintenance or build time.
maintenance will limit amount of ships while build time will slow their snowballing.

Learn to laugh at (with?) the AI? [;)]

I played a fun game in Legends where I automated everything except ship design and research (since the AI was very silly about what it researched...). Watching the antics of AI fleet management and missions had me in stitches at the time. The biggest bugbear I had with that game was that I had to limit my designs to one per category, so no specialist ships.

Oh, and the bumbling AI fleet managers did finally conquer the galaxy. [:D]

If you fully automate the game, someone will win. A guaranteed AI victory. The probability of the different races winning is not the same, though.

As long as you make a positive contribution to your empire, it has an increased chance to win.

The main repeating issue I see with the AI when it comes to war, is lack of understanding of the map and distances. If I wage war over large areas, I will have fleets being involved in different areas. I can of course move a fleet across to the other side, but that is because I think my distribution of fleets is wrong. The AI is more prone to bouncing back and forth with fleets. 6 sectors travel to bust a mining base. Then 6 sectors back to bust one on the other side of the empire.

"We are at war with just 2 empires, why not send one of our 4 large fleets 3 sectors north to blockade this annoying colony of those dudes up there?" That is another one.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Well that ^ pretty much settles it and I was thinking of buying this expansion. Man and I thought they improved the AI an all....they said they did in the store page.

We did in fact improve that. It's tough to know whether folks are talking about previous versions or this one. The AI most definitely has a much better understanding of the map, distances, how to use its fleets and what to research in Shadows.

"Much better" does not lead to "always good" :-)

I have seen it blockade when at war. And go 6 sectors to hit a mine. It is too keen when it comes to "always" attack something, even if the only known target is very distant. The long range attacks avoids some "phony wars", but some wars are maybe better left phony...
