Section 6.1.3 in the manual states the population in each province will increase by at least 1 each April.

In Early April 1863, my Yankee Economic report said the Available population increased by zero. Camps consumed 5 men. (Cities showed the loss of the five men.) The late April report said nothing about population increases.

I am puzzled. Shouldn't the population of each province have increased?

Second question: what happens to a camp if the available population drops to zero?

Thanks in advance. I just purchased FoF, and I hope it turns out to be fun.

1. I think that the camps might have consumed the population increased, but I am not totally sure.
2. They still produce reinforcements, but at a lower rate. I do not remember the math behind it, but I wonder if it is something like 250men + (current population)x50men, so with a current population of 0, you will still receive the minimum of (I again think it is) 250 men per camp.

Due to this, especially as the CSA, I find that it might be just as well to build camps in non-crucial cities, since a population of 0 will reduce all your income for that city, and also make you unable to form new units there (with a few exceptions).

I still think this is a great game, just wish I had more gaming time so I could play a little more.

Hello Terje,

Thank you for the fast reply. It will help me as I try to figure out how to manage the "Men" resource.

The game seems very interesting. I bought it recently during the sale, and, like you, I am trying to find the time to play. First, of course, I need to come to grips with some of the mechanics.

All the best,

John

Np [:)]
It IS very fun and interesting, and there is something to learn for those that like that, as the Bios of the generals are quite well written.
Just ask if there is something you wonder about, if no one replies, drop a pm since this game is now so far down on the list...

In the readme.pdf within the main FoF folder it says for the 1.10.10 patch:
quote:

Camps now have five separate chances of reducing population in April rather than one chance.
Camps in provinces that have zero Men provide half the normal level of reinforcements (replacements).

Thank you Floyd ... I hadn't checked the Readme files.

Do you have any idea why the population did not increase anywhere in April?

bobarossa -> RE: Population losses (6/2/2013 9:29:05 PM)

Assuming they were not all at their max values, they should have increased. The loss of people from camps occurs after the yearly increase. Also, depending on what features you have enabled, the population can increase an extra 1 or 2. The readme has a lot of information that is newer than the manual.

Ah... Well done, Bobarossa. The cities were all at their max.

Thank you very much.

John
