Lucian -> Ancient Guardians declare War! (6/2/2013 11:34:04 AM)

It was late game and I was playing as a normal empire with a pre-warp start. My reputation was admired and I wasn't currently at war with anyone.

Suddenly the Ancient Guardians declared war on me. I checked and I was still "admired" and was even on friendly terms with the guardians *while* they were at war with me!

I tried diplomacy to get them to stop, but no amount of money would work. Anyway, they gave me a few tense moments, but their relationship with me stayed friendly right up until the point that I obliterated their fleets and bombed their homeworld out of existence. It only went unfriendly when I was actually bombing their world and during that time my overall reputation dropped to satisfactory.

Has this happened to anyone else? The only thing I can think of is that I was pretty close to winning at the time, in fact I won about 10 minutes after wiping them out. Are the ancient guardians programmed to attack in order to stop you from winning even though you are on good terms with them? If so I have never seen this behavior in a pre-Shadows game. I have to admit, it was interesting if a bit unexpected.

Did you have the scaling of difficulty as you are near winning turned on? That could explain some odd behavior right before victory.

Lucian -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (6/2/2013 11:47:04 AM)

No, its a good idea, but no I'm sure I didn't have it on.

If nobody else has seen this sort of behavior it might just be a one off glitch. I was just wondering if the guardians are stepping in for *everyone* in the late game to stop them from winning.

I was on normal difficulty btw.

LoL! Nice to see this. I hope it's intended!

Erik Rutins -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (6/2/2013 3:41:40 PM)

Please upload a save file for this - ideally one from before and one from after it happened so that we can investigate.

Lucian -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (6/2/2013 7:33:32 PM)

Unfortunately I don't have a save. At the time I thought the guardians were just trying to prevent my imminent win. It was only later that it seemed weird enough to ask on the forum if anyone else had seen the same thing.

In fact It was only when I saw my post moved to the tech forum that I realized that you appear to have indirectly confirmed that the behavior was abnormal.

I'll keep an eye out though and if it happens again, I'll be sure to post the saves.

Kruos -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (6/5/2013 9:48:44 PM)

Same bug here. It happened whereas I was building the Zenox wonder which would give me the win.

I have an autosave before and a save just after the DoW. Erik, could you please indicate me an upload link, I dont remember where it is.

EDIT: I have found the link, upload ongoing. :)
EDIT2: Files uploaded under the names "Kruos_BeforetheDoW" and "Kruos_AftertheDoW".

I have a screen too :

That's interesting, I was also playing the Zenox and building the same wonder when it happened to me.

Kruos -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (6/25/2013 10:50:29 AM)

Has this bug been corrected in the last update?

Aloriel -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (6/29/2013 8:11:15 AM)

That would be a no. I'm playing 1.9.0.7 and it just happened to me. I wasn't even on the verge of victory (though I was winning at about 64%). It's turned a difficult win into an almost impossible one now. I can't take them. Even with my allies, we can't take them. I'm losing mining bases left and right. Fortunately, they don't seem to be programmed to invade planets.

I tried a last ditch attempt to take their planet. Lost about 75% of my fleet doing so... and failed.

Since then, I've managed to get a World Destroyer online. They almost destroyed it before I had a chance to do anything with it. I've rebuilt my fleet to about 150% of it's previous size, and retrofitted it. My ships can actually take some of what they dish out now, but yeegads!

I realllllly hope they fix this issue. AGs are supposed to be passive until the Shakturi show up (which they never did).

Game stats:
Race: Wekkarus
Gov't: Democracy
Map size: 100 stars, 4x4 sectors
8 opponents
Normal difficulty
Difficulty ramps up as you near victory
Age of Shadows empire start
All plots active

I, unfortunately, do not have a save game from before or after. I have autosaves off.

elliotg -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (8/1/2013 8:35:20 AM)

Thanks for this report and savegames.

This is fixed in the next update so that the Ancient Guardians no longer automatically declare war on empires that are building victory wonders.

Thanks
Elliot

Lucian -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (8/2/2013 2:49:12 PM)

Thanks Elliot, I have mixed feelings because It was quite an interesting challenge to have to face them at that stage of the game, but it made absolutely no sense so I'm glad that you managed to fix it. Thanks again for listening to feedback and improving the game, DW is fast becoming the best 4x ever made.

fierceking -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (8/2/2013 11:20:57 PM)

I have encountered a somewaht similar problem which I'll add to this thread.

In my last game, the Ancient Guardians were wiped out by the Silvermyst. I didn't notice until it was too late in the game. I was waiting for the shakturi to arrive but never seen them. So I figure I try to contact the Ancient Guardians via the Diplomacy tab and noticed them not there on the list.

I go the edit game and look at their homeworld and see 3 silvermyst in their solar systam. They have been wiped out. This is with ver 1.9.0.8

Lucian -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (8/2/2013 11:31:25 PM)

I wouldn't think that's a bug. If they happen to get wiped out by other empires, pirates or monsters like silver-mists then that's their problem isn't it?

Bebop Cola -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (8/3/2013 3:10:18 AM)

I think the issue here is that the Shakturi didn't appear without the Ancient Guardians present to kick off their part of that plot.

Lucian -> RE: Ancient Guardians declare War! (8/3/2013 9:50:35 AM)

Oh, has it changed? I haven't seen the Shakturi in Shadows yet but in previous versions, the AG's don't have anything to do with the actual arrival of the Shakturi other than warning you near the very start of the game (since they always spawn very close to you).

If the AG's should be wiped out in the mid or late game I cant see that it would make any difference to the Shak's arrival other than the fact that they wouldn't be around to fight them.

Even if AG's didn't survive to deliver the warning (very unlikely because it always happens so early), I strongly suspect that the Shakturi would still be able to show up because the plotline is enabled.

It might have changed in Shadows, but that was my interpretation of the way things worked previously. The AG's don't actually need to still be alive when the Shakturi return.
