The whole thing with getting money for atomized ships is cheesy. Make destroyed ships leave wrecks, so you can repair them or salvage for resources. Also make script to drag damaged ships and wrecks with tractors to starport. Pirates getting money from destroyed ships must be separated into salvage and bounty.

Im'not sure I'd call it cheesy, but I do agree that as designed its overly abstracted.

I think your suggestion would make for very interesting gameplay. You could even have dedicated salvage ships and then you would have to weigh up the pros of remaining on the battlefield against the risk of more enemy ships warping in to attack while your salvage fleet is at work and vulnerable. It would add another layer of strategy to both ship design and combat, certainly a good thing.

However from the Devs point of view I can see an awful lot of extra code required to make it happen. Might be a feature more realistically left for DW2.

Well i played a bit of Eve and there salvage is an integral part of game. I spent a wonderful hour looting an ongoing battle, doubled my capital. CCP devs arent lazy about huge code, thats why Eve is the best space game on earth.

Btw, "overly abstracted" and "cheesy" are synonyms as far as i know.

Can't be done.

Recall that it was recently changed such that 'Abandoned' ships can't be boarded at all, thanks to certain shenanigans. You're proposing that ships switch to Abandoned, and then be messable with.

paShadoWn -> RE: Looting: add wrecks (6/10/2013 12:57:22 PM)

Cant be done? Become a dev then speak like that. Boarding of wrecks is irrelevant to the topic. And yes, i propose exactly that.

So one arrogant, wrong statement, one irrelevant statement and one statement repeating my proposition. How very eloquent.

Lucian -> RE: Looting: add wrecks (6/10/2013 1:15:17 PM)

Of course it can be done, its just a matter of how much time and effort is required to do it.

To me the OP's idea sounds good and interesting but I fear that it would require too much work for the devs to implement it.

Pity really I'd like to have an escorted salvage fleet to send into a battle area.

It seems kind of below your pay grade. Like transferring raided resources.

besides pirate ships mostly have tractor beams... ;)

Really? I think salvaging would be kinda fun as well as challenging, maybe its just me.

You might be right though, with everything else to consider in the game, having to worry about salvaging as well might end up being more frustrating than enjoyable.

Of course if you could automate it then you would have the choice, if you get sick of micromanaging, just turn on the automation. But that just means more coding doesn't it,? AND they'd have to teach the AI, so really its never going to happen, at least not in this version of DW. Way too much work. [:)]

Zangi -> RE: Looting: add wrecks (6/10/2013 2:32:49 PM)

There would be more ships out there, just for salvaging. And of course, more space things to keep track of. Not sure if my computer can handle that on my current map size.(700 stars)

paShadoWn -> RE: Looting: add wrecks (6/10/2013 3:35:02 PM)

I have a computer dated from previous decade and except for memory leak error after few hours i run max size max stars maps just fine.
