How do you find abandoned ships as a pirate? (Full Version)

As an empire I see to find a lot of ships by investigating ancient ruins, but pirates can't do this. I see other pirate factions sometimes find advanced ships though, are these ships found near ruins sometimes or are they just scattered randomly?

I noticed my explorers don't really go out of their way to capture abandoned ships or bases, so sometimes you just have to get lucky in spotting them yourself.

They're scattered randomly and in ship graveyards. I found lots in my last pirate game.
