Larsenex -> Resupply ships and how to use them. (6/13/2013 10:18:10 PM)

So I have resupply ships.

I designed and have 5 floating round the galaxy and they are assigned in with my fleets. I went into one system with 7 ships + the resupply. Upon arrival my ships were nearly empty of fuel.

I told the mothership to deploy at the in system gas giant which had both caslon and hydrogen. It deployed and then immediately said 'undeploying' in 26 seconds. I did this three times and still it wanted to leave the gas giant.

I grabbed them all up, clicked on the gas giant and chose, refueld at mothership and still nothing.

What is happening: Mothership deploys and immediately un-deploys and fleet is unable to refuel in-system. Fleet is also leaving to refuel nearly 5 sectors away, grrr.

What I want to happen: Fleet arrives, I order Mothership to deploy at in system gas giant, fleet refuels and proceeds to patrol system as ordered. (This system had a world destroyer and derelicts to salvage)

Is there a reason or thing I am missing on getting my fleet to refuel at the mothership?

Any advice is welcome.

I dont think it works if you have the resupply ship in the same fleet, what will happen is that it will follow your manual order and deploy and then immediately (automatically) try to rejoin the fleet, even if it's close by.

Try dropping the resupply ship out of the fleet and then deploy it, hopefully it should stay put.

Leave the fleet with the resupply ship and take a look at the engagement stance, so that the resupply ship dont want to attack system targets.

hmmm both seem to be valid fixes. Ill look at both when i get home.

I don't remember for sure, but in their design, they may be set to "Flee when Enemy sighted" as part of their design logic.

You should be able to see this in the Ship Design screen for them.

What I learned (Legends experience) about Resupply ships is that they should never be in a fleet. Because if they are, you cannot order the fleet to refuel at the resupply ship since the resupply ship will then undeploy and go to the location it already is. (This does not refer to the issue you ran into, but I thought I'd post it anyway.)

Resupply ships may feel unwieldy at first, but when you get accustomed to then, they are invaluable.

Yeah, I found resupply ships to be quite counter-intuitive in their use. Would be much nicer if they could be part of a fleet. I wonder if the AI is capable of using them effectively. I sure can't be bothered most of the time.

I usually have one hot-keyed and have it follow my main fleet around. It save a lot of time to always have a nearby refueling point.

Please explain how i can hot key specific ships?

Select ship => press "control + 1" => unselect ship => hit "1" to select it again. :)

Works pretty much with any object, including planets, fleets, systems and even enemy ships (as long as you can see them).

Double-hitting the hotkey will also automaticly center the screen on the object.

Well i have another problem with the resupply ships...
In my Games they work normal. Lets say your fleets only need caslon for refuels. So over time the Resupply ship has something like 20k Hydrogen in his cargo and only space for 2k caslon levt, cause after each time my fleet visited it, it frees up space in the cargo which the resupply ship just fills up with both, which is never enough to refuel my fleets. And finding only caslon Gas Giants /Nebulars can be quite hard if you want your Resupply ships to be in good positions.
And i havent found an Option to tell the ship only to mine one of the two things...

+1

I find this is the best way to deal with resupply ships.

The Caslon problem is caused by what reactors you have set up in your ships. You should set up your ships to go with one kind of reactors to avoid these problems.

elanaagain -> RE: Resupply ships and how to use them. (6/24/2013 11:48:24 PM)

When i develop h reactors, I put my civilians on one (H or Caslon) and the military on the other.

Larsenex -> RE: Resupply ships and how to use them. (6/25/2013 4:31:28 PM)

I found that its easier to manage stuff if everyone is using the same fuel. When I get fusion reactors I immediately upgrade/retrofit all my civ and military AND bases to that type of engine. What happens next is a logistic nightmare with everyone rushing to the docks to retrofit and a ton of 'you are outta' everything messages!

I don't like using resupply ships atm because they consistently cause that long range scanner overlay issue
