Mr.Frag -> Automating Supplies (1/8/2003 9:55:52 PM)

I seem to be confused on how to automate supply runs. Can someone who completely understands this let me know...

I create a Transport TF with a couple of AK/AP etc.

I tell it to load supplies.

I give it a destination base for DH.

I set it to "do not retire".

I then set it to "computer controlled".

Works like a charm from some bases, CS: xxx shows up.

I run multiple Transport TF's in this manner from one base no problem.

Other bases such as Rabual/Truk work for the first trip then I find all the transports piled up in port doing nothing. I remember there being something different about certain bases and the way the "computer controlled" option works, but it seems I do not understand.

Can someone clearly explain the implications of which base is the home port and the "Retire/Do not Retire" setting on computer control for both supplies and fuel and whether supply & fuel can be combined?

Obviously, with upwards of 100 AP/AK/TK/AO running around, manually controlling them becomes a nightmare yet proper use of supply is absolutely key to winning the game...

The only times I have seen this happen (and I have seen it happen quite a few times) is when an enemy TF rears it's ugly head and disrupts your supply runs.

When this happens you get the message(s) during execution that the TF in question is "Reacting (retreating?) to (from?) enemy", or something of the sort.

When that happens it seems to basically erase they routine supply run's orders and it simply huals tail to port and sits waiting for new orders.

It is a pain, but I am not sure how/if it could be automated. I am not really sure I want the AI taking control and routing my unarmed supply TFs around with enemy combat units in the area. I think it may be for the best if they just go to port and wait for orders. ;)

Re-read the manual section 8.1 and it finally sunk in.

Routine vs Continuous Supply (computer controlled)

CS has a set destination, Routine automatically chooses locations based on rules... What was happening was that my CS ones were keeping bases at a level where the Routine version would not need to transport supply therefore it just sat around waiting for something to do. Don't I feel silly...

Question for the experts:

Can the CS option be used from Truk/Brisbase/Noumea or must we do that one manually?

I do it all the time.

Set the TF to "computer controlled" first. Then set the destination.

The order of these steps makes a difference from Brisbane, Noumeau and Truk.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, as you might have noticed from the order I posted I was doing things, it is backwards to your solution ;)

That explains where I was going wrong...
