Chris21wen -> Which resources are needed (6/20/2013 9:56:38 PM)

Having played this game on and off since it came out I've never actually bothered with many of the manual processes such as ship building and resource targeting. Since Shadows I have but have come across somthing that I think is a major flaw in the game unless that is I'm missing something.

I'm researching Point defenses (could be anything) and wanted to know what resources I need to build them once I have completed the researched. How do I find this out? It's not in the component section of help and neither is it available from the research window for Point defenses. It is available once you have researched it and through the resources themselves, the first is too late and the later not very useful when you have so many resources. Am I missing something?

Info section? I cannot find anything in the manual that tells me what resources are needed to build any components. Even if there was it should also be in the game help.

I've wondered this as well. When you discover a new technology and the large notification image appears on the middle right of the screen, clicking this reveals a Component Guide window with exactly the details you are asking for:

Can we click somewhere in game to make this window appear for a component, including those we have yet to discover? When you get the Component Guide window upon discovering a tech, the game draws the technology screen underneath that window, making me think the correct place to try would be in there somewhere but I've tried everything I can think of. I've poked around a lot elsewhere within the UI and in game I have only found poor substitutes so far:

* In the Expansion Planner, you can click the underlined name of a strategic resource in the top panel to see all the components (including undiscovered) that require the resource. That is in game and exhaustive as long as you are willing to work backwards.

* For already discovered components, you can create a new, empty design and add just the single component to it. When you click "Construction Summary" you will see the precise resource requirements.

Those are the best I've found. Surely there's a manual way to pull up the Component Guide for any component, any time you desire?

For the ones you have available it is easy enough, but for those you have yet to research, I am not so sure.

The ways I now of is:

1: The design screen. The button below the left component table. Looking for resource use, also notice the button below the table in the middle (the construction summary).

2: On a ship itself. If you view component tab for the selected ship in the ship list, clicking a component reveals its resources (but not energy usage) on the right.

But to view the resources for titan beam without them researched, or not having a ship equipped with them available? I don't find a way.
